The BRIDGES project

The University of Eastern Finland has received a special grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021-2022 to promote the well-being of students and prevent exclusion. With the special grant, the University of Eastern Finland is implementing the BRIDGES project to increase student's wellbeing and communality.

The project aims to take action to strengthen the engagement and inclusion of students and prevent exclusion. The project will realise the digitalisation of student advice services/psychosocial support and support subject and peer tutoring by promoting collaboration between actors. The project supports the studying capacity and inclusion of students, and promotes wellbeing through peer activities, community support actions and activities.

The project has several subcontractors, who co-operate with each other and support UEF's other student guidance and wellbeing activities. The sub-projects and contact persons are listed in this section, and you can read more about ISYY's sub-project down below.

The progress, events and activities of the project will be informed in the university's communication channels (KAMU and Yammer), by ISYY and other subcontractors in their own channels during the project.

ISYY's sub-project

According to the initial survey conducted in the spring of 2021, the functions of ISYY's sub-project to promote students' wellbeing and communality are designed to answer to the needs of students after the covid-19 pandemic. According to the results of the initial survey, ISYY's sub-project will implement concrete activities on both campuses aimed at achieving the project's goals. The actions initiated in the project are intended to be rooted in the activities of the University and the Student Union also after the end of the project. Riina Pääkkönen (MAT) works as ISYY's project coordinator.

Main goals

  1. Maintaining students' ability to study
  2. Improving student resilience and wellbeing
  3. Increasing students’ communality and decreasing experiences of loneliness

To achieve these goals, ISYY offers students

  • activities and events to get to know fellow students
  • support for finding new friends through Hobby Buddy service
  • peer support e.g. ISYY's blog
  • a material bank to support subject organizations, peer tutors and ISYY Clubs in developing and organizing events
  • help to find information on the maintenance of wellbeing and studying, and also the right party for various problem situations in matters related to studying or one's own health.

You can also find current information about the project's upcoming events and activities at www.isyy.fi/bridges, at Weekly Feed and also at ISYY's social media channels. The pages are constantly updated, so stay tuned for more information!

We are constantly developing our actions and students' wishes for activities that support wellbeing are more than welcome.
