An affordable lunch in one of the student canteens is one of the most notable student benefits in Finland. There are several canteens that serve healthy lunches at student-friendly prices in both Joensuu and Kuopio. For each meal, the Finnish government pays a subsidy, resulting in a 2.30€ discount, which can be obtained by showing your student card to the cashier. The prices vary according to the meal type you choose.
If you are not yet in possession of a student card, you may collect a KELA meal subsidy card from the customer service counter of the UEF Student and Learning Services.
P.S. As a student you are entitled to receive a student discount and use the services of all of the meal subsidised student canteens across Finland. When you travel around, it is always worth checking where the nearest student canteen, with its cheap lunch options, is located.
