HAPPY TUESDAY!

The ultimate student holiday is here! It’s time to grab your overalls (and your high school graduation cap) and head for a May Day -themed picnic among other festive students. May Day is usually considered as a holiday celebrating workers, but in Finland it is truly taken over by higher education students with their carnival traditions. 30th April is the day for student celebrations - there’s usually a student cavalcade and traffic is closed so students can parade through the city waving student organisation flags and sporting their student organisation overalls and high school graduation caps.

The traditional Vappu picnic feast includes delicacies such as a sugar-coated doughnut (munkki) and funnel cake (tippaleipä), which is coated with powdered sugar. To wash all the sugar down Finns usually drink sima - a sweet, sparkling low-alcoholic beverage which is made by fermenting honey, sugar, water and lemon. Traditional sima also includes a few raisins.

Have a fun May Day! / Hauskaa vappua!

Kind regards,

Salla / kv.joensuu@isyy.fi

Participate in study and you can win noice-cancelling headphones!

We want to investigate the effects of the special arrangements during the coronavirus epidemic on the studies of university students. How have the remote studies during the special arrangements affected learning and the organisation of studies? Have the special arrangements affected getting a job or an internship?

The aim of the studies is to survey experiences during the course of last few years. A lot of studies have already been done on the effects of the coronavirus epidemic, but this study wants to deepen the understanding of the skills gap and learning loss that have not been surveyed from this perspective yet. Tell us about your experiences!

By answering the study, you enter in a raffle to win noise-cancelling headphones!

Both new students and those who have studied for a longer time are welcome to answer! Your responses are valuable and will contribute to fact-based advocacy.

Just like before, students will continue to apply for their degree certificate via an electronic form available in e-Services. Once their degree certificate is ready, students will get an email notification from the university, accompanied by instructions on where the degree certificate can be downloaded and how it should be stored.
