This is the last Weekly Feed of this academic year and the next newsletter will be published on the 18th of August 2020. It means, that summer is so close! We would like to THANK YOU for reading the newsletter!

Also, it's my time to thank you all for my time here at ISYY. I'm moving forward and continuing my studies full-time on August, so this is my last Weekly Feed. I'm so sad to say goodbyes, but life goes on!

If you are spending summer in Kuopio, make sure to visit the beautiful harbor area (and have some ice cream), buy Finnish strawberries from the market square and sunbathe on the Valkeisenlampi beach. Have a super nice summer!

Kind regards,
// kv.kuopio@isyy.fi

New traffic rules come into effect from the beginning of June

“Among the changes it notes are the possibility of parking on the left side of streets where no ban is posted and the chance of drivers getting ticketed for driving too slowly on roads where a minimum speed limit is in force.

The use of winter tyres will no longer be determined by the calendar, as has been the case up until now. Instead, although the law mentions the period of November through the end of March for the standard use of studded snow tyres, drivers can use them at any time that road conditions make them a safer option.

Cyclists are also reminded that from 1 June, if they ride at dusk or in the dark, they need to not only have a red tail light, but also a visible light on the front of their bikes.” - Yle.fi

Cyclists will get a 40€ fine if they break rules. Read more about the rules from here (NB! from 2014).

Answer the Survey on the Wellbeing of students in times of COVID-19!

The COVID-19 outbreak has impacted on higher education. Students may experience stress because of the Covid-19. The outbreak may have had a significant impact on your life (where you live, who you are able to meet in real life, how you can make a living, etc.). This study investigates if these changes have impacted your well-being and health.

The results of the study are important in finding out the situation of students and they will inform on how to prepare for similar situations in the future. Because this survey is conducted in multiple countries, we will also be able to access the impact of local/national policy on well-being and health in the student population.

Are you interested in season work on the Finnish countryside?

Farms around Finland are struggling to get enough workforce in these difficult times due to the pandemic. Crucial workforce from abroad cannot offer their helping hands due to the coronavirus, and this means the countryside is in desperate need of spring and summer season workers.

Every available pair of hands is needed in order to secure domestic food on Finnish dinner tables, and this is where you can step in and help! If, for example, your summer job plans have been cancelled due to the pandemic, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

How to apply?
Employers announce rural vacancies on two websites. New vacancies appear
daily. You will find more detailed descriptions of the tasks and instructions for sending in your application on this and this website. On the last site, you will find the rural seasonal vacancies by writing kausityö2020 into the search box.
