The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) is now accepting applications for student representative positions to the University Board, the University Collegiate Body, and Faculty Councils of the University of Eastern Finland.
Student representatives promote student issues in the University bodies.

All applications must be delivered by noon Tuesday 24 September.

Remember to register as being present and collect a term sticker for autumn 2019 / academic year 2019-2020 for your student card

The registration period for the autumn semester 2019 & academic year 2019-2020 ends on the 15th of September 2019. Enrolled students should register via WebOodi. New students can register by visiting UEF Student and Learning services in person. The term stickers are available at ISYY Office. Registration should be done and the Student Union membership fee should be paid before reclaiming the term sticker.

If you do not live in Kuopio or Joensuu and you cannot make it to the ISYY’s office during the opening hours, you can get the term sticker via mail or you can pick it up from another student union’s office.

ISYY has its own registered blood donation group, VeriRyhmä. When you’re going to donate blood, please tell that you belong to ISYY’s VeriRyhmä. You can also find ISYY’s VeriRyhmä on Facebook by the name of “ISYYn VeriRyhmä”. In the group you can find current information on blood donation.

What Is the SYKETTÄ Appro?

SYKETTÄ Appro is a sports appro for university students in Joensuu and Kuopio. The appro is organized by SYKETTÄ sports services in cooperation with the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY), the Student Union POKA of the Karelia University of Applied Sciences, and the Student Union of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences. SYKETTÄ Appro is held in the beginning of the fall semester as part of the free trial period of SYKETTÄ sports services.

The 18th edition of ANTI - Contemporary Art Festival kicks off in Kuopio this week! Internationally celebrated, award-winning artists from around the world will once again present their projects in Kuopio.

The theme and focus for the 18th edition of ANTI - Contemporary Art Festival is death. The programme traces various iterations of death in an attempt to open-up thinking around our relationship to it and to the many sets of phenomena that surround it.

The presentations and events of ANTI Festival are free for the audience, but some events require a seat reservation.

19.9. Intenational Stand Up Night at Kuopio Campus

To dazzle the new international students arriving to Northern Savo, Kuopio region and its partners invites international students for a Stand
Up Night at Kuopio Campus. The auditorium at the University of Eastern Finland is expected to be fully booked and full of laughter.

The event will be in English and top comedians, handpicked by the Kuopio Comedy Festival, from around the world will be performing for the students, including Orlando Baxter, James Lórian MacDonald and Ali Jahangiri.

The International Stand Up night is free of charge for international students. You can get your tickets from the ISYY Office!

Kauppakatu's Improbatur comes back 24.9.2019 and happy students take over the Kauppakatu
street of Kuopio starting at 16.00!  This year the winning team of team competition gets 4 x Samsung Galaxy S10e phone.

Impro is all about style! This year the best costume will receive a prize as well. Costume competition is ment for groups of 3 to 5 members. So all you need to do is to get together a-4-person-team. You can also join the fun without a team.

27.9. Hyeena Loves the '90ish!

On the last Friday night of September (27.9.) it is time to celebrate to the beat of legendary '90s music, as Hyeena Loves the '90ish for the tenth time! The party will be held at Calacucco!

Music will consist of the biggest hits from the '90s and perhaps also a few years around the '90s. Don't forget to perform your favourite '90s songs in the karaoke, too!

Tickets are sold in in advance for 4 € (ticet selling dates will be announced later) and at the door for 5 €. The price includes a '90s themed overall patch!

4.10. Lehtiä Ilosaaressa

LEHTIÄ ILOSAARESSA FESTIVAL LIGHTS UP YOUR FALL SEMESTER!

Lehtiä Ilosaaressa festival brings the party back to Joensuu Areena on 4th of October. Last year more than 3500 partyers attended and we expect at least same will have show up this year. Finnish pop artist Ellinoora will start the night and Teflon Brothers follows. Next up is Chisu who is one of the most popular female artist in Finland and EDM duo Tungevaag & Raaban (nor&swe) lights up Areena. Rapper Pyhimys seals the night. All the artists to the festival have been announced and the schedule is ready.

Introducing the Niittylahti area and the Ukko Loden pine for September

In September, it might be worth a while to visit the Niittylahti area and admire the beautiful autumn leaf color.

The Niittylahti area is one of the most important outdoor and recreational areas in Kuopio and is mostly owned by the city of Kuopio. You can get to know the versatile nature of the area, for example, on an 8 km long nature trail. The trail is marked with green route markers. You can also enjoy the views of Tonkkurinmäki on a separate 2,5 km long trail.

HEL we can! Boosting Skills & Continuous Learning in Europe – a side event of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union is looking for volunteers at Messukeskus 23.9.2019!

You will hear interesting discussions about the future of work, continuous learning and skills development and meet people from around Europe. You will receive a certificate of your involvement and four movie tickets as a token of appreciation. Meals and coffee breaks are included for the day.

As a volunteer you will help with the registration of participants, guiding and informative functions and general support to the organizing. A can do -attitude, English skills and aptitude to customer service are needed during the day.

Join the Erasmus in Schools – programme!

While in Finland, would you like to have a possibility to interact easily with Finnish people outside your studies and get firsthand experience of the Finnish education system?

If so, one option is visiting a real Finnish school through the Erasmus in Schools -programme!  By joining  the programme you get a chance to see take part in a normal school day by giving the students lessons as a visiting student.

Erasmus in Schools offers you:

  •  a possibility to visit one or more schools (preschool, primary, secondary, vocational) at your region or in a town nearby
  •   a possibility to meet Finnish teachers and pupils
  • a possibility to take part in classes of your choice e.g. telling about your home country, teaching language, subject of your study, sports... 
  • a possibility to form a connection to the school and the teacher/s for possible future cooperation
  • travelling expenses will be reimbursed
