The Student Union of University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) arranged a questionnaire about ISYY’s communications in October–November 2018. The questionnaire aimed at getting information on how our communications work and also feedback and hopes for the future.
It was possible to answer the questionnaire in Finnish and in English. It included questions where the respondents had to rate on a scale of 1 to 5, for example, how well ISYY’s communications reached them, as well as open-ended questions.
The questionnaire received 247 responses. Results showed that ISYY’s communications is more visible and effective than earlier, but some work is still needed. Respondents were asked to rate how well ISYY’s communications reach them and how it works on a scale from 1 to 5. Over 50 % of the respondents rated both of these as 4 and only 6 % with a lower grade than 3. Our weekly newsletters, Wiikko-Ärsyke and Weekly-Feed were praised most and they also reached most of the respondents. Over 80 % of the respondents follow Wiikko-Ärsyke and 15 % Weekly-Feed. From those who read our newsletters, 68 % follow them weekly and 24 % couple of times per month.
In addition to the newsletters, ISYY’s social media channels (especially Facebook) are followed quite well, but more content is needed. 50 % of the respondents follow ISYY on Facebook and 30 % on Instagram. Respondents wish our social media channels to have more content about our interests advocacy, students’ health and well-being and also about topical issues such as events and national student affairs. According to the questionnaire, ISYY’s website is not used a lot, mostly when some concrete information is needed.
This year, we are going to develop especially communications about our interests advocacy. ISYY’s Action plan for 2019 includes a project called “Interests Advocacy Can Be Interesting!”, the goal of which is to develop a model of monthly post about ISYY’s interests advocacy. So something new is definitely coming up! Also, our new website will be published during the early spring.
