Come to make a students’ Finland 100 act in Kuopio!

In December, a whole century has passed since Finland got independent. On the Independence Day, 6th of December 2017 we remember those, who secured the independence of our country.

Guards of honour are constituted in different places around Finland. In the guards of honour, a person of the same age as the deceased will be standing at the grave. The guard of honour is constituted in Kuopio together with the Student Union of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences, the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland and the Student Union of the Emergency Services College.

Because 638 deceased heroes have been buried in the Sankaripuisto, garden of heroes of Kuopio, 638 students of the Savonia University of Applied Sciences, the University of Eastern Finland and the Emergency Services College are invited to the guard of honour. All students, teachers and staff members aged from 18 to 45 years may sign to come along.

While signing up, you can choose the deceased hero at the grave of whom you want to stand in the guard. The ones buried in the Sankaripuisto of Kuopio can be found on the website sotasampo.fi/en > Casulties > Choose “Sankaripuisto (605)” from the Cemetery option, found in the options located left.

Place: Kuopion Sankaripuisto (located approximately 200 meters from the Kuopio’s marketplace towards the indoor ice rink)

7.45–8.00 Gathering in front of the main building of the Kuopion kansalaisopisto (Kuopio Community College) (address Puistokatu 20)

8.10 Torch procession moves to the Sankaripuisto by marching (distance approximately 400 meters)

8.45 Laying of wreaths

8.55–9.00 Programme in the Sankaripuisto begins

9.40 Guards of Honour leave the graves

In honour of the Finland 100 jubilee year, the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) participates in Kuopio in the guard of honour instead of the Student Union’s own Torch Parade of the Independence Day.
