Electing a new Central Election Committee for ISYY's Representative Council elections of 2027

The next Representative Council elections of ISYY are held in autumn 2027, but the election work starts already next spring. Thus, electing a new Central Election Committee, whose purpose is to prepare and supervise the elections, is on the Representative Council’s agenda this autumn.

The highest decision-making body of the Student Union is the Representative Council. It consists of 39 ISYY members elected with the Representative Council elections. The aim of the Representative Council is to serve the members of ISYY and make sure that the student perspective is always taken into account in decision-making. The Representative Council members have an opportunity to influence many things that directly affect students, such as the amount of the ISYY membership fee, as well as the annual budget and action plan of the Student Union.

What does the Committee do?

Tasks of the Central Election Committee members include, among other things, participating in the Committee meetings, preparing election documents and questions for the voting aid and election panels, participating in ISYY’s election events (e.g. election panels, campaigning days and election night), helping with planning and executing election communication as well as counting the votes. ISYY staff helps and supports the Central Election Committee in organising the elections.

Who can become a member?

The Central Election Committee consists of at least six (6) and at most eight (8) ordinary members and at most four (4) deputy members in order. Non-ISYY members can be in the Committee as long as the majority of the members are ISYY members. Hence, you can be a part of the Central Election Committee although you would graduate in 2027. Please note that a member of the Central Election Committee cannot nominate themself as a candidate in the Representative Council elections.

The next Central Election Committee is elected at the last Representative Council meeting of this year on 26 November. The Council will also elect the Chairperson and Vice-Chair for the Committee among the Central Election Committee members. Active election work of the Committee is finished by the end of 2027.

If you are a member of the Representative Council, you can nominate yourself or another person, such as a deputy member of your group, as a member for the Central Election Committee at the Representative Council meeting. If you’re not an ISYY Council member, but are interested in joining the Central Election Committee, please send an email to the Chairperson of the ISYY Council to epj(at)isyy.fi by Wednesday 25 November expressing your interest so that the Chairperson can nominate you at the Council meeting on 26 November. The Central Election Committee members have onboarding for their tasks in the beginning of 2027.
