AEGEE Joensuu

AEGEE empowers students and young people in Europe to take an active role in society. It creates a space for dialogue and learning opportunities as well as acts as their representative towards decision-makers. Moreover, AEGEE strengthens mutual understanding and brings Europe closer to young people.

Chinese Friendship and Culture Society

The purpose of the association is to build network for all Chinese speakers to make friends and promote intercultural communications, and help Chinese  speaker students and scholars to solve problems in studying, work and everyday life during that time when they are studying in University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu campus, or in Karelia university of applied sciences. The association will:

  • Encourage students to communicate and be co-operative together, enrich their free time life, for example to have cultural, art and sports activities.
  • Progress the communication of Chinese students and scholars in UEF, Joensuu campus, and Karelia UAS.
  • Progress co-operation and communication not only in Joensuu, but also in other areas of Finland.
  • Progress Finnish-Chinese communication in education, science, culture and economics.

EGEA Joensuu

EGEA Joensuu is one of EGEA (European Geography Association for students and young geographers) Europe’s entities. Our goals are to encourage, foster and develop activities between students interested in geography by organising small exchanges and local events. UEF Choir Joy is a 70-member mixed choir that operates at the Joensuu campus. The choir sings both traditional and modern choir pieces. The choir organises auditions for new singers in the beginning of the autumn semester. If you are interested in choir singing, do not hesitate to contact us!

Joensuu Entrepreneurship Society (JoES)

Since 2013, Joensuu Entrepreneurship Society (JoES) has shared inspiration, helped you to network and created events. We are a young and active community that connects people with an entrepreneurial spirit. We want to encourage everyone to try new things and develop themselves. Polku week is our main event which attracts hundreds of students to learn about entrepreneurship. It is held annually in the last week of September. During the week, you’re able to experience inspiring keynote speakers, workshops and moreover, to network with other motivated people. As a student, you participate for free and can get yourself two credits!

Joensuun ylioppilasteatteri

Joensuun ylioppilasteatteri – The student theater of Joensuu is an amateur theater group open to everyone. We are one of the 14 student theaters of Finland and a significant part of Joensuu’s cultural landscape. We annually produce 3-5 plays and our improvisation group, Improstaatit, performs in restaurant Kerubi once a month. We are also open to international students.

Joensuun Vihreät Nuoret ja Opiskelijat – JoViNO is a local organisation of the Green Youth and Students. Loimun opiskelijat - Joensuu

Loimun opiskelijat – Joensuu ry functions at the UEF Joensuu campus. We organise info desks and other events and cooperate with local student associations Bunsen ry, Epsilon ry, Joensuun Metsäylioppilaat ry, Mikrovillus ry, Tombolo ry and Skripti ry. The organisation's target group are students of Natural, Environmental and Forestry Science.

RajaSpeksi

RajaSpeksi is the one and only spex in Joensuu. Spex is a kind of amateur comedy theatre act performed by university students. Most of university cities in Finland and Sweden have long-running traditions of spex. Prominent features of spexes are the musical-like mix of spoken text and songs, the often rhymed dialogue, a good amount of satire and parody and the tradition of having the audience shout “Omstart!” (Swedish “Restart!”) if they consider the current scene especially hilarious. RajaSpeksi needs new actors/actresses, singers, dancers, musicians, producers, marketing persons etc. every year. The production of RajaSpeksi starts in autumn and lasts till the shows in spring.

RytmiHäiriköt

RytmiHäiriköt – Funk You. Joensuu campus big band RytmiHäiriköt rehearse at Educa (Hall E 200) on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 pm. RytmiHäiriköt is an extended big band, which includes comp and saxophone, trumpet, and trombone sections but also other wind instruments. Repertoire of Häiriköt is based on Rhythm music, mainly rock, soul and funk, but also latin, swing and jazz are well represented. If you own an instrument and a strict attitude towards playing, come directly to our rehearsals or check and ask more.
