Postgraduate students

If you are an international postgraduate student, i.e. you have already completed your Master’s degree, joining ISYY is optional for you. If you are an international postgraduate student in Finland on an exchange, please read our webpage for exchange students. ISYY membership is also voluntary for exchange students.

As a member of ISYY you are entitled to to all ISYY's membership services, and participate in all of the events and activities organised by ISYY, Joensuu's Exchange and International Students (JEIS) and other ISYY Clubs. Additionally, ISYY membership will give you access to noticeable discounts in restaurants, bars, cinemas and shops all across Finland, as well as online.

However, please note that postgraduate students are not entitled to subsidised student meals, discounts on local public bus transport or the services provided by Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS).

Starting from 1 January 2024, postgraduate students have been eligible for student discount from VR. In order to get the discount you must have a valid postgraduate student's student card, which is green, with VR logo in it. Frank and Tuudo have already updated the VR logo to their digital student cards for postgraduate students.

• 56 € for the whole academic year 1.8.2026-31.7.2027
• 27,50 € for the autumn semester 1.8.-31.12.2026
• 28,50 € for the spring semester 1.1.-31.7.2027

How to become a member

STEP 1: Pay your membership fee

NB! You may also pay the membership fee by cash or by debit or credit card at the ISYY offices in Joensuu or Kuopio. Please note that the biggest banknote you can pay with at our offices is 50€.

STEP 2: Register your membership

Once you have paid, register your membership by showing the payment receipt at the customer service counter of the UEF Student and Learning Services or email your payment receipt to the UEF Student and Learning Services (opiskelu(at)uef.fi). Please include your name and date of birth to the email.

After the payment and registration process has been completed, you can order the plastic student card with ISIC (40 €) online from Frank's website or download the Frank App, which acts as a digital student card. The student card functions as a national benefit and discount card as well as the Student Union (ISYY) membership card.
