The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland
19.09.2025
The ninth elections for the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) Representative Council will be held this autumn on both campuses. The elections will not succeed without good candidates and voters. Will you be one or both of them?
To be able to vote or become a candidate, you must be an ISYY member.
To put it simply, the Student Union could be seen as a nation where students are its citizens. The citizens (students) elect the Parliament (Representative Council), who then elect the Committees and the Government (Executive Board).
By participating in the Representative Council elections, you can best influence the most important matters during your life as a student and take part in decision-making. Don’t miss your chance, become a candidate even if you don’t have any previous experience, and vote for a candidate who best represents the matters important to you.
You should run as a candidate because as a Representative Council member, you will decide on the future of the Student Union, cooperate with the University, supervise students’ interests and take part in national student politics. The Representative Council is the highest decision making body in the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland, so being a part of ISYY’s work, you get to influence concretely what the Student Union looks like now, and in the future. Do you for example wish that there were ski racks on campus or an ISYY coffee machine? Are you annoyed by the Weekly Feed newsletters? For example these things are something you can influence if you join ISYY’s work! You will also network with other students from different study fields and learn important skills from government and decision-making. You don’t need to have previous experience to become a candidate!
You will find instructions on how to become a candidate and the contact information for candidate lists’ representatives on ISYY’s website.
In the previous ISYY elections, the voter turnout was 23,97 %. Let’s make sure that this year the voter turnout will be higher than in the last elections! The voting is easy breezy in ISYY’s electrical voting system! Just log onto it with your UEF credentials, pick a candidate and cast your vote for a good cause!
You should vote in the elections, because that way you get to choose the people who make decisions concerning the Student Union and the services ISYY offers to its members. By voting, you will have a chance to affect your own life at the university directly!
The Representative Council consists of 39 members who will decide on matters influencing all students, such as the Student Union budget, membership fee, action plan and rules. Your membership fee is used on operating ISYY anyway, so why wouldn’t you influence how it’s being used?
Every vote counts, so use yours!
