At the ISYY Annual Celebration, we are also celebrating the 50-years of Student Union history in Kuopio

The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) is celebrating its 12th Annual Celebration in Kuopio Hotel IsoValkeinen on 29th October 2022, but the Student Union history in Kuopio goes back 50 years.  This year we are celebrating not only the young Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland, but also the 50-years of University and Student Union history in Kuopio.

The University (UEF) and the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) were founded in 2010, when the University of Kuopio and the University of Joensuu were combined. At the same time, naturally the Student Union of the University of Kuopio (KYY) and the Student Union of the University of Joensuu (JoYY) were combined.  Many of ISYY's traditions takes back to the time of KYY and JoYY, like May Day events, e.g. the Capping of the "Kanavatyttö" Statue in Joensuu, The Capping of the "Velj'mies" -statue and "Proffan uitto" (eng. Dipping the Professor in the Vel'mies' "pool") in Kuopio, Torch Parades on the Independence Day, and for example the Savo-Karjala Excursion, takes bag to the time of KYY and JoYY. 

The Student Union of the University of Kuopio were founded on 19th September 1972. That means, that The University of Kuopio and the Student Union of Kuopio would be celebrating their 50th Annual Celebration this year. KYY is still mentioned even today in speeches of the Student Union actives, staff members, Student Association actives and also some students. The Student Union of the University of Kuopio will be visible in ISYY's Annual Celebration this year via Celebration Speeches. We are also going to organise a small KYY exhibition in our Kuopio Office during the Annual Celebration week. By attendind the exhibition you'll get familiar with our Student Union history in Kuopio.
