In its meeting on 22 April 2025, the ISYY (Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland) Executive Board decided to sign Seta’s joint statement calling for a ban on conversion therapy (statement in Finnish). Parliament has approved the Rikkomaton (Unbroken) citizens’ initiative, which proposes legislative action to prohibit conversion practices in Finland.
– Conversion therapy is a form of psychological violence and must not be tolerated. The government must now act to defend human rights and democracy, Noora Saramäki, Chair of the ISYY board, comments.
ISYY has partnered with North Karelia Pride several times, and has also participated in Kuopio Pride organized by Pohjois-Savo Seta ry. During recent years, collaboration has been especially visible in Joensuu, where since 2022 ISYY has co-organized the pride park festival following the Pride parade in cooperation with North Karelia Seta ry. Since 2024, collaboration with local Pride events has been included in ISYY’s annual action plan accepted by the ISYY Representative Council.
The North Karelia Pride park festival will be held in cooperation with North Karelia Seta ry, Fiktio ry, and ISYY on Saturday 17 May 2025, at Ilosaari in Joensuu.
