New students begin their studies at the University of Eastern Finland – Keep calm in traffic

On Friday the 1st of September, over 2000 new students will begin their studies at the university of Eastern Finland. In Joensuu, 1266 students, in Kuopio 1040 students and in Savonlinna 169 have accepted a place at the university.

New students will increase traffic on the roads as well as on cycling and pedestrian ways. The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) hopes that those in traffic will stay calm in order to ensure everyone a safe journey.

‘All campus cities have certain places where you should be extra careful. In Joensuu, there is the crossover on Yliopistokatu between Agora and Metria buildings, in Kuopio the Savilahti area and Niiralankatu which is currently under renovation, and in Savonlinna, the intersection of Olavinkatu next to the fire station,’ says Tahvo Kekkonen, the chairperson of ISYY’s Board.

These are places where one should slow down and pay extra attention to others driving, cycling or walking.

‘Together we can ensure everyone a smooth and safe journey to university, school or work.’
