COVID-19 related information
Here is a detailed list of COVID-19 related information and important links for international students in both Joensuu and Kuopio. Check the city-specific information below. Stay safe!
Kuopio
- Remember the basics:
- Wash your hands, wear a mask and keep a safety distance of 2 metres.
- Please refrain from attending parties, trips, large gatherings etc.
- Download and use Koronavilkku app which helps you to track exposure to the virus. You can download the app here.
- If you have any flu symptoms and suspect that you might have been infected with Covid-19, here is what you can do:
- You should take Omaolo symptom assessment online. (Available in Finnish and English.)
- If you think you have coronavirus, you can call Kuopio City Corona Help Line and book an appointment for a test: +358 44 704 6700. The line may be very busy at the moment because of the number of cases and exposures, but please wait patiently or call them again. The help line is open weekdays Mon-Thu from 8am to 3pm, Friday from 8am to 2pm and on weekend Fri-Sun from 8am to 12 noon.
- You can also call the Medical Helpline 116117, which is open 24/7. Your situation will be assessed over the phone and you will get instructions.
- Remember to call first before visiting a health station!

- You can check the latest places where coronavirus exposure is possible from the Kuopio City’s website. The website is in Finnish, but the place names are listed with dates and times, which makes it easy to follow for non-Finnish speakers as well.
- Please note that if a health official has instructed you to stay in quarantine in your home, it is not voluntary. You can find THL’s (Finnish Institute of Health and Welfare) instructions and definitions of quarantine here.
- It is possible to order take-away food or groceries delivered to your home during quarantine. You can order food from for example:
- Foodora
- Wolt
- Foodie (Home delivery of the S-Group's grocery stores, in Finnish only)
- K-ruoka (Home delivery of the K-Group's grocery stores, in Finnish only)
- Grocery store K-market Pirtinportti takes orders by email at kmarketpirtinportti(at)hotmail.com and serves in English. Service charge for the home delivery: 5–10 €/order (e.g. 5 € to Rauhalahti, 10 € to city centre, Puijonlaakso). The grocery order has to be made a day before the delivery.

- Alternatively, you can call your local health station. For those living in the Joensuu area, contact Siilainen health station by phone: 013 330 2211.
