Become a candidate in ISYY's Representative Council Elections by 1.10.

Become a candidate and vote in the ISYY Representative Council Elections, so that you get to take part in what your Student Union membership fee is being used on! By taking part in ISYY you get to influence the most important matters of your student life and take part in decision-making.

What Representative Council Elections?

The elected Representative Council forms the highest decision-making body of the Student Union. It consists of 39 ISYY members. The ISYY Council is elected by elections which are held every other year. All ISYY members can vote in the elections, so students elect the ISYY Council amongst the students who have become candidates. All ISYY members can become candidates. The present ISYY Council’s term is coming to an end at the end of 2025 so it is time to elect new representatives! 

The elections for the ISYY Council will be held as electronic elections this autumn. Advance voting takes place 27.-31.10.2025 and the actual voting day is 6.11.2025.

What does the ISYY Council do?

The ISYY Council guides the Student Union’s operations by deciding, for instance, the amount of its membership fee, action plan for each year, finances and direction of the Student Union’s future. The ISYY Council also appoints their Chairpersons as well as the Executive Board every year. The decisions are made in ISYY Council meetings which are held approximately 6-8 times a year. In addition, they often have an evening school prior to the meeting, in which the upcoming agenda is discussed in advance.

International students have the opportunity to ask for an interpreter to be present in the meetings, since the operating language of the meetings is Finnish. The agenda for each meeting is translated into English. The term of each ISYY Council is two years.

There will be an orientation for new elected members so you do not have to know everything about the ISYY Council beforehand! It is enough that you are interested in influencing matters related to students and the Student Union. The meetings of ISYY Council are open to all ISYY members, and you can follow the meeting on site at the university or via live stream on ISYY's YouTube channel. The next meeting of the ISYY Council 25.9. at 5 pm. We encourage everyone who is interested in the ISYY Council work to come and get to know the activities.

How to become a candidate?

1. Fill in the “candidate’s approval and assurance” document either in electronic or paper form and deliver it to ISYY by 1.10. by 3 pm.
2. Choose a candidate list you want to nominate yourself from the Electronic election system. If you cannot find a list that fits you, you can establish your own list. Here are instructions on how to establish your own candidate list.
3. Fill in the Candidate’s approval and assurance in the Electronic election system. Alternatively, you can print or pick up a paper form from ISYY offices and fill in that. The form is returned to the ISYY office.
4. After you have received a confirmation from the Representative of the candidate list via email, you are a candidate in the ISYY Representative Council Elections.
