The Executive Board member of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY), Pauliina Ryökäs, has been elected to the Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for the year 2023. The last time that ISYY’s candidate was elected was to the Board 2021.
The SYL General Assembly elected the Board 2023 for the union on Saturday 19th November. ISYY’s candidate Pauliina Ryökäs was elected to the board. Pauliina Ryökäs, 27, is a Master’s Student in Biomedicine in UEF Kuopio campus. Ryökäs has been a member of the ISYY Executive Board 2021–2022 working with social policy and academic affairs.
– The main feeling right now is gratitude. This would not have been possible without the support of the ISYY community and so many others. It is an honour to be able to be the voice of all university students in the year of the Parliamentary Elections. Next year will be full of challenges and tough debates to ensure that students are not forgotten, says Ryökäs.
On Friday 18th November the General Assembly also elected the Chairperson for the Board 2023, Lotta Leinonen, 24, from the Student Union of the University of Oulu.
The National Union of the University Students in Finland represents approximately 130 000 University Students in Finland. The Union is making an impact on the themes of academic affairs, social policy and international affairs.
The General Assembly is held every year at the end of autumn and it is the highest decision-making body of the union. The General Assembly also decided about the budget and the action plan for the union for the upcoming year.
