HAPPY TUESDAY!

  • Today March 19 Finland celebrates equality and Minna Canth, an influential, trailblazing feminist writer and journalist. You can read more about her influence in Finnish history here.
  • Tomorrow March 20 is the spring equinox, which means that the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. Spring equinox marks the first day of spring, because from this day forward the days start to get longer (and hopefully sunnier as well)!
  • Saturday March 23 is Earth hour so switch off and give an hour for Earth at 8:30 pm your local time. You can read more about the movement here.

Have a great week!

ESN overalls for sale at the ISYY office

What are these colourful party pants that everyone wears in student parties? Overalls ("haalarit") is a huge tradition in Finland among higher education students. They represent you and your fellow students as a collective, especially since every study field has its own overall color and/or design. If you're in Finland only for one semester and don't have the time to get your own student associations' overalls, you can get blue ESN overalls, also known as the international students' overalls! The ESN overalls are sold at ISYY's office for 35e. Get yours before they run out!

To learn more about the higher education overall tradition in Finland, you can watch this Youtube video.
