HAPPY TUESDAY!

And happy Sober Disco Day! Join ISYY's Sober Disco tonight in Kerubi from 7:30 pm until midnight, tickets can be purchased on Kide.app

Tomorrow, the 28th of February, is Kalevala's Day. Kalevala is the Finnish national epic compiled by Elias Lönnrot. Kalevala's Day is an official flag day in Finland and simultaneously the Day of Finnish culture. The Kalevala played an instrumental role in the development of Finnish national identity, the arts and Finnish language. It has been translated into over sixty languages and for example J.R.R.Tolkien mentions it as a source for some of his works. You can read more about Kalevala here.

Have a great week!

Student, change Europe! Vote!

The EU election programme and campaign of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) and the National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK) has begun last week. With the joint EU election programme and campaign, higher education students want to build a better future for higher education and young generations in Europe and encourage all students to vote. The campaign calls for ambition, leadership and student-centered decisions in education policy. The EU must increase funding and accessibility for education and mobility, ban unpaid internships and act as a peacemaker in times of instability.

Main points of the campaign are:

  • Effortless student exchanges
  • Getting rid of unpaid internships
  • A union more focused on peacebuilding

What is my Student Association?

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

See the list of all Student Associations on ISYY's website to find out your own Student Association:
