HAPPY TUESDAY!

You could, for example, make your own overall patch from recycled materials at Hyeena's booth or learn about conservation of the Saimaa ringed seal population.

Join ISYY's International Team!

Do you want to be promoting a more inclusive and international student community? Would you like to be involved in supporting the future opportunities of our international students in the Finnish labour market, as well as improving the internationalisation of our local students at home? Would you like to bring an international view to the ISYY Executive Board’s attention?

If this matches your vision of the future direction of the Student Union, university, and campus cities, this team is for you! Previous experience of working in a student union is not required.

The team gathers to meet and discuss issues that are important to international students to provide advice to the ISYY Executive Board. The themes or issues discussed in the meetings can be forwarded to ISYY and the international sector can take them to their agenda. Application period ends on Sunday 24 March.

Name competition: Let's update our tradition together!

One of the traditions in ISYY's Vappu Celebration in Kuopio is to name two student actives as Vel'jmies (Velj'=brother, mies=man) and Siskotyttö (Sisko=sister, tyttö=girl). The named student actives will have an honorary task to do the capping of Velj'mies statue in ISYY's Vappu Eve's Pool Event. The traditions of the Pool Event go back 50 years.

The names come from the statues located at both ends of Kuopio Market Hall, Velj'mies and Siskotyttö. We want our traditions to be accessible for everyone, and the Student Union recognises that this tradition needs to be updated to be more inclusive and to reflect diversity.

We are now giving our members a chance to join us in updating the tradition by giving us suggestions for the new nominations with this name competition. Give us your suggestion by Sunday 24 March 2024 and win tickets for you and your friend to ISYY's traditonal Savo-Karjala Excursion to the campus of your choice. The winner will get to pick the city and bus before the ticket sale begins.

Degree students: The Health Care Service fee to Kela must be paid by 15 March

In order to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS), students attending university or a university of applied sciences must pay a healthcare fee to Kela. The fee must be paid for each term. Kela does not send a bill for the fee, so students must make sure to pay it on their own initiative. Read more about the payment of the healthcare fee and the due dates for payment: How to pay the healthcare fee in higher education.

  • The 2024 rate of the student healthcare fee is EUR 36.80 per term. For the spring term, the due date is 15 March provided that you have registered as attending by 31 January
  • If you pay the fee after the due date, Kela will charge a fixed late-payment fee of EUR 5.
  • NB! You do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country, from Switzerland, or from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Read more here.
