Call for Volunteers: Community Art at Campus

We are calling for volunteers to join organising and planning a Community Art Project that will be held on campus during the Students' Mental Health week. The event is funded by Kuopio's FSHS's project 'Equal Community Art on campuses' and the event will be organised in Kuopio campus on 8.-10.4.2024 together with Kulttuuripaja Luode (cultural workspace) and ISYY. During the three-day art project students can join creating the community art during their day at the campus. The theme of the art installation will be equality. The aim of the project is to highlight the effects of culture and art to one's wellbeing in the context of higher education students' wellbeing work. Joining the project is a great way to pause your day, enjoy making art with other students and use your brain in a different, more creative way

The volunteers are needed to be at the site during the project and give instruction to other students. Kulttuuripaja Luode will organise an info and planning session for the volunteers on Thursday 14 March 2024 at 12-15. Joining the session on 14.3. is mandatory. During the afternoon there will be a volunteer training and the volunteers will also get to plan the art project, and how the equality theme will be seen in the project, together with Luode.

Volunteers will receive refrences from UEF stating that they worked as a volunteer and the project will give each volunteer Finnkino Cinema tickets.

You can apply as a volunteer until 3.3.2024 by filling an electronic form that can be found from ISYY website.

Student, change Europe! Vote!

The EU election programme and campaign of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) and the National Union of Students in Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (SAMOK) has begun last week. With the joint EU election programme and campaign, higher education students want to build a better future for higher education and young generations in Europe and encourage all students to vote. The campaign calls for ambition, leadership and student-centered decisions in education policy. The EU must increase funding and accessibility for education and mobility, ban unpaid internships and act as a peacemaker in times of instability.

Main points of the campaign are:

  • Effortless student exchanges
  • Getting rid of unpaid internships
  • A union more focused on peacebuilding

You can follow the campaing e.g. on the official Instagram account @opiskelijaneu.

Degree students: remember to pay the Health Care Service fee to Kela!

Students attending a traditional university or a university of applied sciences must pay a healthcare fee to Kela. The fee must be paid for each term. Kela does not send a bill for the fee, so students must make sure to pay it on their own initiative. You can pay the healthcare fee via Kela’s e-service OmaKela (available in Finnish and Swedish only).

If you are completing a higher education degree and are registered as attending, you have the right to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS).

Read more about the payment of the healthcare fee and the due dates for payment: How to pay the healthcare fee in higher education.

The amount of the healthcare fee for students in higher education is adjusted annually. The 2024 rate of the student healthcare fee is EUR 36.80 per term. For the spring term, the due date is 15 March provided that you have registered as attending by 31 January. If you register as attending for the spring term on or after 1 February, the due date is 31 July.

If you do not pay the healthcare fee by the due date, Kela will send you a reminder. If you pay the fee after the due date, Kela will charge a fixed late-payment fee of EUR 5.

NB! You do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage from another EU/EEA country, from Switzerland, or from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Even if you do not have to pay the fee, you can still use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service. Howewer, be prepared to show your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) when visiting FSHS.
