Studies About to Start, But No Apartment to Be Found?

Are you starting your studies at the University of Eastern Finland, but do not have an apartment yet? Kuopas and Joensuun Elli - the student housing companies in Kuopio and Joensuu - strive to find a home for every new student, but keep in mind that there are hundreds of applicants and housing them all takes time. If you have loose criteria for the apartment, you have better chances for finding an apartment.

If you are looking for a rental apartment on the market, be careful with scammers. Do not pay anything before you have confirmed that the apartment actually exists, is reserved for you and you have signed the lease. If the housing ad or the tenancy agreement includes suspicious conditions, it is advisable to think twice before signing the lease. If the tenancy agreement contains something that puzzles you, you can ask for advice from the Student Union's specialists of academic and social affairs and interest advocacy.

If your situation is looking desperate, you can ask your tutor for advice. They might know someone who could accommodate your for a short time, or have information on available housing. If you cannot find a solution this way either, temporary accommodation might be available. If you require temporary accommodation, please contact Mikko Aaltonen, ISYY’s Student Advocacy Expert (koso@isyy.fi, Kuopio campus).

PLEASE NOTE! Temporary accommodation is a short-term solution only, and only for students applying for housing in the campus cities.
