HAPPY TUESDAY!

You can apply in ESN Joensuu's board, join the fun as an active member or vote for the new board in tomorrow's ESN Joensuu General Meeting at 5 pm in AU205 (Aurora building). Remember to take your student card or ESNCard with you!

This Sunday 10.4 is Palm Sunday, so you might see children walking around the neighbourhood from door to door dressed as little witches carrying decorated willow twigs and baskets. This tradition called “virpominen” vaguely resembles the American Halloween tradition of trick or treating, as the children are offered candy or chocolate eggs when they visit your doorstep. These little witches say a spell / rhyme wishing you a healthy year, then offer you the willow twig decorated with colourful feathers and crepe paper strips as a blessing to your house that keeps evil spirits away - in exchange for sweet treats.

Hope you have a wonderful semester!

Kind regards,

Salla / kv.joensuu@isyy.fi

The students’ mental health crisis needs actions; thus we queue for better healthcare services.

Students’ mental health crisis needs reaction; thus we queue for better healthcare services. ISYY will take part in the demonstration organised by the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY)on 13 April. According to the themes of Students’ Mental Health Day on 13 April, we demand that the government budgets more funding to the mental health services of FSHS. The demonstration will be held in the townsquare of Kuopio and Joensuu at 3 pm

This demonstration is not in opposition of FSHS in any way, rather it is meant to raise awareness for the lack of FSHS resources budgeted by the government. Let’s together show that students need of more healthcare resources!

    • ISYY’s demonstration on increasing the resources of FSHS’s mental health services
  • Why?

Greetings from SYL and student unions for the budget framework session!

SYL and students unions will be making their presence felt outside the House of Estates to make sure that the government does not forget about the students. Cuts budgeted in the spending limits must be cancelled. Measures must be taken to prevent higher education students from dropping out and helping them to return to their studies.

In order for the government to remember the students in the budget framework session, we will be handing our greetings to Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen at the House of Estates on 5 April in a laundry bag. Let’s get the dirty laundry washed and invest in education!

You are allowed to make mistakes, fail and be less than perfect. You are #GoodEnough just as you are. You are enough.  Participate in the Students’ Mental Health Day campaign during 7–14 April 2022 by sharing your own image, video or story that demonstrates the imperfectness of your daily life. Tag your content with the hashtag #GoodEnough. Then tag your friends or different organizations and encourage them to do the same. By lowering the bar and abandoning the pursuit of perfection, we can increase compassion for ourselves and for others as well. Facing others and reducing your feelings of pressure is easier if you don’t have to pretend that you live in a perfect world. Together we are good enough at making a change! How could UEF support entrepreneurship? Answer the survey & win movie tickets and product prizes

What kind of support UEF should give for entrepreneurship? Now is your chance to influence the entrepreneurship and innovation services!

We want to find out how we can support and promote the encounter of entrepreneurial minded and interested students in our university community. We are also exploring how you think the university can best support the pathway to entrepreneurship or the development of your own entrepreneurial activities.

It only takes a few minutes to complete the survey and we will draw 3 x two cinema tickets and UEF product prize packages from all respondents.

You can take the survey HERE.  The deadline to answer is 10 April.

Do you have more to say about entrepreneurship?

We will organise a workshop on 11 April at 12.15 at the Joensuu campus, where you can also register at the end of the survey. So there are real opportunities to make a difference.

We will listen to your views with a sensitive ear and try to come up with concrete measures to support entrepreneurship in the way you and your fellow students think would be smartest.

The survey is carried out in cooperation between the University of Eastern Finland and Männikkömetsä Oy.

Solve the SDGs hackathon (22.4-24.4)

We warmly invite students and network to our upcoming Solve the SDGs hackathon from April 22 - 24, 2022 (EEST). The hackathon is organized by Aalto Ventures Program in collaboration with Junction.

The future looks uncertain - that means it's not fixed. That means we can shape it. In the right hands, in our hands, the future can be molded into something we can't wait to live in. It's time to get those hands dirty.

Solve the SDGs is a hybrid hackathon where we create solutions for Sustainable Development Goals. It is a hackathon for people, who don't want to watch the world burn but to change it for the better.

The hackathon is open for participants from all backgrounds - both students and non-students; no prior hacking experience is necessary. Participation is free of charge. Join us in April virtually from anywhere in the world to shape the future! If you are in Finland, you are more than welcome to join us at Startup Sauna, Espoo.

Please kindly note that registration is open until April 8th.

What is my Student Organisation?

Student Organisations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Organisations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Organisation has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

See the list of all Student Organisations on ISYY's website to find out your own Student Organisation:
