ISYYs sustainable development week 7-13.11.

How do companies take the climate, the environment and human rights into consideration in their activities? Do stores offer responsibly produced clothing? How about laptops or phones?

Come and learn more about responsible consumption and get to know other students interested in the subject!

ISYY is taking part in the sustainable development week, co-organised with the National Union of Students in Finland (SYL), from 7th to 13th November (week 45). In the program there will be a workshop held by Eetti ry about corporate responsibility (in Finnish) and online discussion (in English) held by Fairtrade together with students from Åbo Akademi Studentkår ÅAS.

On top of the events organised together with SYL, ISYY’s BRIDGES project will arrange a trip to School for Self Suffeciency in Nurmes. In the academy they hold courses to teach people how to live life completely in a self-sustaining way! During the trip you will learn how the academy operates and how you can live more self-sustaining by yourself. You can attend this trip from both campuses. NB! Lectures during the trip will be available only in Finnish!

Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

Remember to attach lights to your bicycle!

As the evenings are getting darker quicker, remember to wear reflectors and start using lights on your bicycle. When riding at dusk or in the dark, the Finnish law requires that a bicycle has a white or light yellow headlight and a red rear light. If you don't have these, you can be fined by the police. You can increase your visibility in the dark by wearing a reflector tag or a reflector vest.
