HAPPY TUESDAY! 

This year's Winter Solstice lands on 21st December, which means that it's the shortest day of the year. After that, the days will become longer and there will be more sunlight!

This is the last Weekly Feed of the year 2022. Weekly Feed returns on 10 January 2022, enjoy your holidays and see you next year! If you're leaving Finland, I hope you enjoyed your stay here and I wish you all the best!

ISYY offices will be closing for the Christmas holidays on Thursday 15th December. The last chance to visit ISYY office is on Wednesday 14th December from 12 noon until 4 pm. Have a peaceful holidays!

Follow ISYY's Representative Council meeting today at 5 pm

ISYY Representative Council will hold its last meeting of the year today 13th December starting at 5 pm.

The meeting will be held on campus in classrooms AU100 (Joensuu) and SN201 (Kuopio).
You can follow the meeting in the classrooms or via ISYY’s YouTube Channel.

In the meeting the Representative Council will, among other things, elect the Executive Board and Representative Council Chairpersons for 2023.

ISYY awarded distinguished actors at its 12th Annual Celebration

The 12th Annual Celebration of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) was held 29th October 2022 in Kuopio. At the Celebration ISYY awarded distinguished Student Union actors according to its Symbol Regulations. This year were awarded nine Medals of Honour, five Golden Medals of Distinction, seven Silver Medals of Distinction and 20 Medals of the Student Union. In addition to the awarded Medals the Student Union awarded also 19 Diploma of Honour.

This year we were celebrating the 12-year-old ISYY but also the 50-years of Student Union history in Kuopio. For the honour of our long history in Kuopio, the Medals of Honour were awarded this year to persons who have acted very meritoriously already in our former Student Unions, the Student Union of Kuopio University (KYY) and the Student Union of the Kuopio School of Economics (KUKKOY).

SYKETTÄ includes sport services for the students and staff members at the University of Eastern Finland and Karelia University of Applied Sciences. You can see the prices for each sticker on the SYKETTÄ website and you can buy your sticker online or from the ISYY office. Remember to create a user account with your uef email before you try to buy a sticker or enroll to classes. Physical stickers are available to purchase at the ISYY office. Please follow our hygiene and safety instructions

Greetings from the BRIDGES coordinator

Hey! Here is the last greeting of the year. The year has gone by incredibly fast. I hope you have the opportunity to stop and gather resources for next semester. Speaking of next year: The project's operations will continue as normal for next year as well, yay! We already have a program planned for January. For example we will organize a communal walk and coffee on 17.1. Also super popular Friends&Coffee will continue in spring semester. Last Tomato Monday on 19.12.

Do you feel you need a push or peer support to start or continue your tasks and studies? Join our weekly Tomato Monday study sessions to do your work among the presence of other students. In Tomato Monday we offer a structured work framework of 25 minutes of focused work sessions followed by a 5-minute-long break - also known as pomodoro technique.

Tomato Monday takes place on Monday 19.12. at 12.15 pm-2 pm at Zoom and in Joensuu also at the Carelia library group work room 2A6 (2nd floor). The sessions are open to all the students and researchers of the University. The language is English.

The campaign is coordinated by the Ministry of Justice.This means fighting against discrimination, acting against it, and recognizing equality between people. Our library welcomes all people regardless of the person’s gender, age, ethnic origin, religion or belief, opinion, state of health, disability or sexual orientation. A sign in the library premises indicates that we want to take discrimination and equality seriously. It's only a small gesture, but it can help to raise issues of discrimination.

If you started completing your first degree at an institution of higher education this academic year, you can answer the HealthStart questionnaire on the Self online service.

After completing the HealthStart questionnaire, you’ll receive immediate feedback on your state of health and may be referred for health promotion services provided by the FSHS.

 Degree students: Higher education students can pay the healthcare fee for 2023 to Kela now

In 2023, the student healthcare fee in higher education is 36.80 euros per term. The fee for the whole calendar year, i.e. the spring and autumn term 2023, can be paid at the same time. Students are not billed for the fee but are expected to pay it on their own initiative. Read more about how to pay the fee on Kela's website

Healthcare fee for higher education students set at EUR 73.60 for 2023

The healthcare fee charged from higher education students for using student healthcare services will be EUR 73.60, or EUR 36.80 per term, in 2023. The students in higher education must pay the health care fee on their own initiative to Kela for both the spring and autumn semesters. Compared to 2022, the fee will increase by EUR 2 to improve the availability of services.

In future, the healthcare fee will not be charged from degree students coming from other EU or EEA countries, Switzerland or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Their right to use the services of the Finnish Student Health Service will continue as before.

The online trainings consist of short videos as well as in-depth trainings. The trainings can be accessed flexibly at any time that suits you. They are free of charge to UEF staff and students, and they are available until January 31, 2023.
