HAPPY TUESDAY!

Next week's Tuesday is Valentine’s Day! Compared to other countries, Finnish Valentine’s Day is usually meant to be spent with friends instead of with a significant other - Valentine’s Day is called ‘ystävänpäivä’ in Finnish, which translates as Friend’s Day. Finns might give a Valentine’s card to their closest friends as a thank you for being a great friend. You can craft Valentine's Day cards in Carelia lobby on Monday 13.2 with ESN Joensuu!

It is common for Finnish friends to gather together on Valentine's Day and have, for example, a movie night with snacks or go to a café. On Valentine's Day, BRIDGES organises Coffee & Friends event between 4-6pm, and a communal walk starting at 4pm, so you can choose how to spend the day!

Kind regards,

Salla / Coordinator of International Affairs in Joensuu (kv.joensuu(at)isyy.fi)

ISYY is giving out grants for international activities!

The grant is for student associations and clubs' promotion of events and projects that further internationalisation in 2023.

We are looking for activities that in addition to promoting internationalisation and international affairs in the campus cities, are repeatable and reproducible, are sustainable long-term, are environmentally friendly, innovative and creative, and take both degree students and exchange students into account. Cooperation with other associations and clubs is also considered an advantage.

Two best applications will receive a grant of 400 €. Application period is from February 1st till March 1st.

What is my Student Association?

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.
