HAPPY TUESDAY!

This Sunday 10.4 is Palm Sunday, so you might see children walking around the neighbourhood from door to door dressed as little witches carrying decorated willow twigs and baskets. This tradition called “virpominen” vaguely resembles the American Halloween tradition of trick or treating, as the children are offered candy or chocolate eggs when they visit your doorstep. These little witches say a spell / rhyme wishing you a healthy year, then offer you the willow twig decorated with colourful feathers and crepe paper strips as a blessing to your house that keeps evil spirits away - in exchange for sweet treats.

Have a nice week! :)

Kind regards,
Elina

The students’ mental health crisis needs actions; thus we queue for better healthcare services

Students’ mental health crisis needs reaction; thus we queue for better healthcare services. ISYY will take part in the demonstration organised by the Student Union of the University of Jyväskylä (JYY)on 13 April.. According to the themes of Students’ Mental Health Day on 13 April, we demand that the government budgets more funding to the mental health services of FSHS. The demonstration will be held in the townsquare of Kuopio and Joensuu at 3 pm.

The mental health issues of students have been on the rise but the resources of student healthcare have not. Also, resources have not increased in line with an increasing the number of students. Therefore, we are forced to react and want to demonstrate in a form of a queue how long one must wait to get access to the student healthcare services. This demonstration is not in opposition of FSHS in any way, rather it is meant to raise awareness for the lack of FSHS resources budgeted by the government.

So come along, wear your student overalls if you have them and if you wish, take a demonstration sign with you. Let’s together show that students need of more healthcare resources! The best demonstration sign will be rewarded!

Welcome!

  • What? ISYY’s demonstration on increasing the resources of FSHS’s mental health services.
  • Why? The lack of resources concerns all students.
  • When? Students’ Mental Health Day (13 April) at 15-16. We will gather in townsquare of Kuopio and Joensuu.
  • What else? Wear your student overall!

Greetings from SYL and student unions for the budget framework session!

SYL and students unions will be making their presence felt outside the House of Estates to make sure that the government does not forget about the students. Cuts budgeted in the spending limits must be cancelled. Measures must be taken to prevent higher education students from dropping out and helping them to return to their studies.

In order for the government to remember the students in the budget framework session, we will be handing our greetings to Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen at the House of Estates on 5 April in a laundry bag. Let’s get the dirty laundry washed and invest in education!

You are allowed to make mistakes, fail and be less than perfect. You are #GoodEnough just as you are. You are enough.

Participate in the Students’ Mental Health Day campaign during 7–14 April 2022 by sharing your own image, video or story that demonstrates the imperfectness of your daily life. By lowering the bar and abandoning the pursuit of perfection, we can increase compassion for ourselves and for others as well.
