HAPPY TUESDAY!

BRIDGES project has a lot going on this spring so keep an eye out for ISYY's event calendar and register for the BRIDGES events before they are sold out. The events themselves are usually free for students, but there are a limited number of places per event.

If you haven't heard about BRIDGES (SILLAT in Finnish) yet, you can head to ISYY's website to learn more. But the basic idea of the project is to increase student's wellbeing and communality. The University of Eastern Finland received a special grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021-2023 to promote the wellbeing of students and prevent exclusion. With this grant, UEF is implementing the BRIDGES project and ISYY is one of the subcontractors.

Have a nice week!

Kind regards,
Elina

ISYY is giving out grants for international activities!

The grant is for student associations and clubs' promotion of events and projects that further internationalisation in 2023.

We are looking for activities that in addition to promoting internationalisation and international affairs in the campus cities, are repeatable and reproducible, are sustainable long-term, are environmentally friendly, innovative and creative, and take both degree students and exchange students into account. Cooperation with other associations and clubs is also considered an advantage.

Two best applications will receive a grant of 400 €. Application period is from February 1st till March 1st.

What is my Student Association?

Student associations are independent, subject-specific associations. The associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each student association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition. See the list of all student associations on ISYY's website to find out your own student association in Kuopio:

Visit Finnish schools during your stay in Finland

While in Finland, would you like to visit a Finnish school? School visits can be carried out in any classes – in subjects such as languages, history, geography, sports, arts, cooking, biology, religion and student counselling. You can also take part in a theme day organised by the local school, e.g. an international day. Your school visit makes a difference to the pupils!

You don’t need to be an actual teacher, but a visitor who brings something new to the class. By visiting the school, you will encourage pupils to get to know new people from different countries and cultures. Your visit can also encourage pupils to learn about the possibilities of study abroad or international volunteering. The visit is also an opportunity for you to follow classes and see how pupils study in Finland.

How to sign up for a visit?

You can register to the Erasmus in Schools programme through the Matching Machine platform. You will receive a notification by email once you have been matched with a school. After that, you can plan your visit together with the teacher.

  • Follow us on Facebook.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us: erasmusinschools@oph.fi
