The decision of the UEF Appeal Board is unfortunate but understandable

The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) understands the UEF Appeal Board’s decision on not to return the degree places of class teacher education through the appeal process.

When the University of Eastern Finland published the results of the joint application for spring, they incorrectly announced 71 applicants that they have been accepted to the degree programme of class teacher education to Joensuu campus. 22 of them accepted the degree place. After being informed about the incorrect decision, 31 applicants left a request for a revised decision to the Appeal Board of the University.

– The decision is very unfortunate and will certainly cause significant disappointments for those students who were incorrectly accepted in the University. Fairness of the decision is controversial and this case has possibly broken customs of good governance. Even so, considering the equality of students and the whole class teacher education in Joensuu, the decision is the right one, states Tahvo Kekkonen, the Chairperson of ISYY Executive Board.

ISYY has earlier expressed its concern about how the teaching of the whole class could have suffered, if the additional students were accepted.
