Are you interested in gaining memorable experiences and influencing the way the Student Union works? Do you want to learn new things and gain significant personal growth only within one year? Are you interested in building a better university? What about influencing the society? Apply for the Student Union’s Executive Board for the year 2019!
The Executive Board for the year 2019 is selected at the Student Union Representative Council’s meeting on 4.12.2018. Those interested in applying for the Board, can forward their contact details to the Student Union. The applicants will also have a chance to participate in a panel discussion on 27.11.2018.
In case you are interested in being a part of the Board, please express your willingness of becoming a board member by sending a motivation letter to the SU. Also include a short introduction of yourself and your resume. Both will be published on the Student Union’s web pages for the decision makers and other students to view. Please, forward the documents to tiedotus@isyy.fi and hakemukset@isyy.fi no later than on 21.11.2018. By sending an application accept that it will be published on Student Union’s website. According to Student Union’s rules, you can run for the SU’s Executive Board also in the Representative Council Meeting on 4th of December.

Panel discussion for the candidates will be held on 27.11.2018 at 17–21 in Joensuu (room BOR101), Kuopio (room ME201). The public is welcomed to follow the panel discussion!
“The purpose of the student union is to act as a link between its members and to promote their societal, social and intellectual aspirations and their aspirations regarding studies and students’ status in society. The student union shall participate in the performance of the educational mission of the university referred to in Section 2 by preparing students for an active, cognizant and critical citizenship.” The Board of the Student Union provides a gateway to the core of student policy. The Board is the essence of the Student Union.
The Representative Council elects the Board’s Chairperson, Vice Chair and 4-8 members annually. The Board is the executive body of the Student Union. It implements the decisions of the Representative Council, represents the Student Union and monitors the economy of the Student Union together with the Secretary General and the Committee for Economic Affairs.
The Board works in close cooperation with the SU committees and sections. Members of the Student Union can influence the Board’s statements and comments, and have their opinions heard in the Board through the committees and sections. During the year, the Board members have meetings regularly, travel around Finland cooperating with other Student Unions as well as represent the Student Union in different events, meetings and committees. The Board members also receive a compensation for their commission of trust.
The Council of Representative elects the Board for a one-year term at the end of each year.
All eligible members of the Student Union can stand as candidates for the Board. The Executive Board for the year 2018 will familiarise the new Board members for their duties on 13.–14.12.2018. All elected Board members are expected to attend the orientation. All elected Board members are also expected to be available on 18.–19.12.2018. The Chairperson is expected to be available on 10-11.12.2018.
