Become a candidate in ISYY’s Representative Council Elections by 29.9.

Take a chance and become a candidate in ISYY’s Representative Council Elections! By taking part in the Representative Council Elections, you can influence the most important matters of your student life and participate in decision-making.

What Representative Council Elections?

The elected Representative Council, which consists of 39 members, forms the highest decision-making body of the Student Union. The Representative Council is elected by elections which are held every other year. All ISYY members can vote in the Elections so students elect the Council amongst the students who have become candidates. The present Representative Council’s term is coming to an end at the end of 2021 so it is time to elect a new representative Council! All ISYY members, which include for example degree students studying at UEF, can become candidates.

The elections for the ISYY Representative Council will be held as electronic elections this autumn. Advance voting takes place on 25.–29.10.2021 and the actual voting day is 3.11.2021.

What does the Representative Council do?

The Representative Council guides the Student Union’s operations by deciding, for instance, the amount of the membership fee, action plan for each year, finances and direction of the Student Union’s future. Every year, the Representative Council also appoints the Representative Council Chairpersons as well as the Executive Board. The decisions are made in Representative Council meetings which are held in the evenings approximately once a month. International students have the opportunity to ask for an interpreter to be present in the meetings since the operating language of the meetings is Finnish. The agenda for each meeting is translated into English. In addition, the Representative Council has an evening school once a month in which the upcoming agenda is discussed in advance so that the actual meetings would run smoothly. The term of each Representative Council is two years.

There will be an orientation for new elected members so you do not have to know everything about the Representative Council beforehand! It is enough that you are interested in influencing matters related to students and the Student Union.
