Announcement: ISYY is organizing Pride week’s park festival

Mon May 15 09:00:00 2023

North Karelia Pride Week will be celebrated again on 15.-21.5.2023 and the traditional Pride parade will take place on Saturday 20th of May at 3 pm. The parade starts from the yard of the Art Museum Onni.

As last year, the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) and North Karelia’s Seta will organize the Pride park festival in Ilosaari on Saturday 20th of May 4 pm forward.

– We encourage all students to take part in the Pride parade and the park festival, and wear their student overalls to form a rainbow, says Julia Lautala, the Vice Chair of the ISYY’s Executive Board.

The University of Eastern Finland and the Student Union’s BRIDGES project, which promotes student wellbeing and communality spirit, is also involved in the organization of the Pride Park Festival. The project is organizing an excursion from the Kuopio campus to Joensuu so that students studying in Kuopio have an opportunity to participate in Pride.

– Once again it's nice to be involved in organizing Pride in Joensuu and at the same time promote a communality spirit despite campus boundaries, says Riina Pääkkönen, the BRIDGES project coordinator.

The Park Festival program includes picnics and live music. There will be performances by singer-songwriter Matias Kangas, party band Lumo and DJ FYKTH, speeches, product sales, a bouncy castle and a chance to do chalk coloring.

The detailed schedule will be published on the website of North Karelia's Seta
