The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) will organise an Independence Day Torch Parade in Joensuu on 6 December 2025, starting at 4 pm.
The Torch Parade is one of the oldest and most beautiful academic traditions of the Student Union.
Unlike in previous years, this year the Torch Parade will assemble at the Länsikatu-side end of UEF’s Aurora building (Yliopistokatu 2). The Parade starts at 4 pm and proceeds along Siltakatu and through the city centre to the memorial grounds, where a ceremony will be held at 4.30 pm. UEF’s Choir Joy will perform at the memorial. The ceremony will also feature a speech by Ville-Pekka Timonen, Chair of the Student Union, and lastly a joint Finnish National Anthem accompanied the Joy choir.
ISYY welcomes the public to follow the Parade at the city centre and at the memorial grounds.
The Student Union will also organise an Independence Day Torch Parade at the Kuopio campus.
