Call for applications: Supplementary application to the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences

According to section 46 of the Universities Act (558/2009), the Student Union's statutory duty is to appoint student representatives to the administrative bodies mentioned in Chapter 3 of the Universities Act. The Student Union also appoints student representatives to other university bodies.

ISYY announces applications for three (3) deputy member positions in the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences to replace the vacant and previously unfilled positions. The term of office of the representative position ends on 31.12.2025.

The Faculty Council of the Faculty of Health Sciences is a multi-member administrative body of a unit subordinate to the University in accordance with section 27 of the Universities Act, in which the faculty’s professors, other teaching and research staff and other staff as well as students are represented.

The duties of the Faculty Council are defined in Section 9 of the Regulations of the University of Eastern Finland. The tasks of the Faculty Council are:

  • discuss and comment on the faculty’s strategy and the faculty’s budget;
  • discuss and comment on the internal structure of the faculty to the extent that the Rector decides on the matter.
  • decides on the establishment and discontinuation of a major subject within the framework of educational responsibility.
  • decide on curricula (incl. in another higher education institution or educational institution) 
  • the principles for the inclusion of completed studies in the degree) and the degree requirements and the selection criteria for students, unless otherwise provided in the regulations
  • grade dissertations;
  • to process a proposal for the professor's field of duties and job description.
  • to process a proposal for the scope of the faculty’s teaching and research staff's four-tiered career model for permanent positions and permanent positions, and
  • task description;
  • decides on the granting of the title of docent.
  • confers the title of honorary doctorate.

Meeting fee is paid for participation in the meetings of the Faculty Council. In addition, it is possible to apply for study credits for participation in administrative and working group work at the end of the term of office.

Person who has the right to complete a bachelor's or master's degree or a licentiate or doctoral doctoral degree at the Faculty of Health Sciences or who has the right to study as an alumni student at the faculty is eligible to become a student representative in the Faculty of Health Sciences. A person who is employed by the university more than 10% of the time is not entitled to apply for the institution in the student group. (University of Eastern Finland Election Regulations, Section 2).

The student representative is expected to have a brisk approach to the issues, to bring out the student perspective in decision-making concerning students, and to familiarize themselves with the issues at hand. If the person's native language is not Finnish, the meeting documents will be translated into English and, if possible, interpretation will be arranged for the meetings.

Justified applications and possible CVs should be submitted to the Student Union's Specialist in Educational and Social Policy Mikko Aaltonen at koso(at)isyy.fi by Monday 2.6.2025 at 12.00.

The student representatives of the Faculty Council will be decided by the ISYY Board at its meeting.
