Announcement: Join the workspaces of audit in UEF

The audit of the University of Eastern Finland takes place on the 9th and 10th of November 2022. In the auditing process, i.e., external quality control, the university's operation is evaluated based on whether it meets the criteria for high-quality operation. The assessment is carried out by the National Assessment Council (KARVI) under the Ministry of Education and Culture. The auditing process invloves student auditing workshops, in which students discuss their own experiences with each other, e.g. about studying, teaching, support services or the study environment at the University of Eastern Finland based on the assignment given by the audit team. Students can share their own experiences as experts in studying.

The progress of the audit is presented in the picture linked below. The University of Eastern Finland's own quality work can be found from Kamu’s quality pages linked below.

The audit consists of an evaluation of four areas of the higher education institution's operation, which are:

  • Knowledge-creating university
  • Impressive and innovative university
  • Developing and prosperous university
  • Learning university

The evaluation team evaluates the first three areas on a scale of Excellent/Good/Inadequate, and in order to pass the audit, the average of these must be at least Good. By passing the audit, the university receives a quality seal that is valid for six years at a time.

The audit is carried out in such a way that the first the audit team, assembled by KARVI for the University of Eastern Finland, familiarises itself with the university's key operating documents and then interviews university management, teaching personnel, administrative and support staff, university stakeholders and students. The students' workshops will be organised on the 9th of November from 10 am to 12 pm in seven different groups, which are:

  • Bachelor’s students I
  • Bachelor’s students II
  • Master's students I
  • Master's students II
  • Postgraduate students
  • International students
  • Students with a continued right to study

There are a maximum of 6 students in each group, one of whom acts as a chairperson and one as a secretary. The group interviews are carried out remotely and are conducted entirely in English, so the person participating in the interview must have at least moderate English language skills. In the interview, the audit team gives an assignment and then follows the conversation remotely. Finally, a summary of the discussions and answers of the workshop groups are put together for the auditors on a separate platform.

KARVI's wish in the student audit process is that the student interviewees represent the views and life situations of the students as widely as possible. Therefore, it is hoped that the interviews will be attended by as many year courses and students of different ages as possible. It is hoped that the group of interviewees will also represent both campuses of UEF, all faculties and genders.

Participating in the audit workshops offers an excellent opportunity to directly influence the University of Eastern Finland's operations, quality work and student support service, because for the next six years, UEF's operations will be developed based on the audit group's findings and action proposals. As a reward for participating in the workshop, students will get coffee and ISYY provides lunch.

If you want to register for the audit student interview, you can do so by filling the form linked below no later than the 17th of October by 12:00 pm (noon).
