VAPPU (May Day) is a very (un)Finnish day :D
Vappu is one of the biggest celebrations of the year in Finland - it is like the Finnish version of the Carnival. During Vappu, you can dress up in silly costumes, hats, and wigs. The must-have accessories are colourful balloons and serpentiini (paper streamers). Students will be wearing their overalls and also that white, sailor-like cap that they get at their high school graduation.
In Joensuu, hundreds of students gather on the Ilosaari island (next to Kerubi) for a huge picnic. You can’t miss this event if you’re in Joensuu that day - it's when everyone is out partying, socialising and having a ball! This event is free and open to everyone!
