The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) is going to carry out Vappu (May Day) with remote events. All interested parties can follow ISYY’s Wappu-broadcast from the 26th of April till the 1st of May. This year, the program of ISYY’s Wappu-broadcast is divided into two segments: audio broadcast between 26th and 29th of April and video broadcast between 30th of April and 1st of May.
Participation in the Wappu-broadcast is possible by both following the broadcast and by making your own material for the broadcast. The program of Wappu-broadcast can be followed on ISYY’s website and broadcasting starts on the 26th of April.
In addition, the student union organises the travelling event Savo-Karjala excursion for the 32nd time this spring. Students can participate in the excursion on the 29th of April from their own homes with the use of a simulator game. This year, you can travel on the Savo-Karjala excursion through virtual Europe!
It will be possible to follow Vappu traditions of both campus cities through a special broadcast of Wappu-broadcast on the 30th of April. The broadcast begins with capping of the Alkukivet stones in Joensuu around 2pm. Through the broadcast you can also follow Vappu parade as well as washing and capping of the Torso statue. Also, Sami Tanskanen, Chairperson of Joensuu Campus Board will give a speech.
After Joensuu’s broadcast we will move to Kuopio where the Veljmies statue will be washed and capped by Velj’mies (Brother Man) and Siskotyttö (Sister Girl). The special broadcast ends with a speech by Vesa Janhunen, Chairperson of ISYY Executive Board, and traditional Professor immersing.
