ISYY awarded recognitions at the 14th Annual Celebration

The 14th Annual Celebration of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) was held 15 March 2024 in Joensuu. At the Celebration ISYY awarded distinguished Student Union actors according to its Symbol Regulations. This year ISYY awarded three Medals of Honour, three Golden Medals of Distinction, three Silver Medals of Distinction and six Medals of the Student Union. In addition to the awarded Medals the Student Union also awarded 14 Diplomas of Honour.

According to the ISYY Symbol Regulations the Medal of Honour can be awarded to a person, who has significantly furthered Student Union’s activities or goals with their long or very meritorious work.

The first person to receive the Medal of Honour is Hannele Mirola, who has been working at the Student Union for a long time as a Service Planner and who led our Student Union during the Secretary General recruitment and also pandemic for several years as a substitute for the Secretary General. Especially during the last years Mirola has been an irreplaceable support for ISYY staff and also student actives, such as ISYY Board Members.  

The second Medal of Honour has been awarded to Raimo Hakkarainen, who had a long and meritorious career in our university community. Hakkarainen operated with student tutoring, wellbeing and also with the crisis management and crisis communications of the University. Amongst new but also older students, Hakkarainen has always been seen as a person in our university community, who was always easy to approach despite the field or campus of studies.

The third person to receive the Medal of Honour is Tuija Pasanen, who has been working in the lead of University of Eastern Finland’s Student and Learning Services for a long time and who has worked with furthering the integration of students in our university, the wellbeing of students and also with furthering the equality work of UEF. With the cooperation in the BRIDGES I and II Project Pasanen made it possible for ISYY and SYKETTÄ to work towards the wellbeing of students in our university.

According to ISYY's Symbol Regulations the Golden Medal of Distinction can be awarded as an acknowledgement for a person's highly meritorious and productive actions towards the Student Union. The Silver Medal of Distinction can be awarded as an acknowledgement for a person's meritorious and productive actions towards the Student Union. The Medals of Distinction were awarded this year according to the following.

The Golden Medal of Distinction:

The Silver Medal of Distinction:

  • Emilia Honkanen
  • Roosa Ikimeri
  • Wilma Poutanen

The Medal of the Student Union can be awarded for a person, who has enhanced Student Union's actions, good spirit and culture with their actions. And lastly, the Diploma of Honour can be awarded to a person, who has acted in student or campus association, ISYY club or in other close organisation, and enhanced Student Unions visibility, the cooperation between the different study fields, or has worked for our students interest advocacy in some other way.
