The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) will organise an Independence Day Torch Parade in Kuopio on 6 December 2025, starting at 6 pm.
The Torch Parade is one of the oldest and most beautiful academic traditions of the Student Union.
– Student Union’s traditional Independence Day Torch Parade is a celebration that reflects the spirit of students and honors our important national holiday. I warmly welcome all citizens to follow the parade and listen to the Student Union’s Independence Day’s speech. This respectful tradition brings us together and highlights the significance of students in society, says the Vice Chair and Kuopio Campus Chair of the ISYY Executive Board Jaana Sivula.
The Torch Parade departs at 6 pm at Sotku (Suokatu 42). The Parade will lay a wreath at the soldiers' graves in Sankaripuisto and then arrive along Tulliportinkatu to the front of Kuopio City Hall. The Vice Chair of the Executive board, Jaana Sivula, will give a speech on the steps of the City Hall, followed by a joint Finnish National Anthem.
ISYY welcomes the public to follow the Parade along Tulliportinkatu and listen to the speech in front of Kuopio City Hall.
The Student Union will also organise an Independence Day Torch Parade at the Joensuu campus.
