Parliamentary Election Advance Voting in Carelia

NB! Every citizen of Finland who has reached the age of 18 not later than on the day of the election is entitled to vote in the Elections, despite the domicile.

The advance voting period of the Finnish Parliamentary elections begins already next week and the voting can be done on campus in Carelia-building.

Opening hours of the voting station in Carelia:
Wed 22.3. – Thu 23.3. at 10-17
Mon 27.3. – Tue 28.3. at 10-18

To vote, it is necessary to present an identity document issued by the police. It that can be an ID, passport, driverce licence or other document with a picture. It is also good the figure out in advance who you are going to vote, you can check the candidate number at the voting station.

 

ISYY's Parliamentary Election Goals are now published!

The main focus in ISYY's goals are in the quality of education, in the wellbeing and poverty of students and in sustainable future.

Parliamentary Election Candidates can sign our goals and express that they are committed to them during the next parliamentary period. ISYY will publish the names and parties in the page as soon a candidate has signed our goals and we have checked the form. Before you vote, you can check from our websites, which candidates have been signed these goals.

Could you be a part of ISYY's May Day (Vappu) team?

The biggest celebration of the whole year for students, May Day aka Vappu, is just around the corner. But before that we need a team to build our Vappu events!

The most traditional parts of ISYY's vappu is the Savo-Karjala Excursion that will be held on 29th April on both campuses and the May Day Eve traditions that have their own specialities in both campus cities.

The application period to ISYY's May Day Teams is open until this weeks Sunday 19.3.2023. Apply now so you will be a part of creating the big student celebration to our campus cities!

ISYY organises Association Days on 29.-30.3.2023 at Joensuu campus (Carelia Lobby) and 29.3.2023 at Kuopio Campus (Snellmania lobby). Come and find out what ISYY and associations close to it have to offer. It’s also possible that you’ll find some new activities from Association Days! ISYY Association Days are open for everybody and there’s no entrance fee. You can also purchase new overall patches.

SYKETTÄ Joensuu

SYKETTÄ includes sport services for the students and staff members at the University of Eastern Finland and Karelia University of Applied Sciences. You can see the prices for each sticker on the SYKETTÄ website and you can buy your sticker online or from the ISYY office. Remember to create a user account with your uef email before you try to buy a sticker or enroll to classes.

Let’s move with Iita and Riina

A low level exercise group for those who want to exercise lightly and with a good mood. The class is suitable for everyone and refreshes the feeling after a day of study or work. The themes of the class vary from body conditioning to light exercise. Exercises are performed varying to the beat of the music and against time. You can participate every time or when it suits you!

A valid SYKETTÄ sticker is not required to participate and you don’t have to enroll on the class. You can just arrive on time. Bring your own exercise mat, indoor exercise equipment and a water bottle.

Themes:

  • Thu 16.3. Bodyweight workout
  • Thu 23.3. Body conditioning with equipment
  • Thu 30.3. Muscle tone workout with equipment

The class is instructed by SYKETTÄ physical activity counsellor / physiotherapist Riina and physical activity counsellor trainee Iita.

Communal walk 14.3.

Is there anything better than fresh air, activity and great company?

Next communal walk is on Tuesday 14th of March at 4 pm. The departure starts from Alkukivet statue in front of Carelia. The walk lasts about one hour, after which the group heads for a warm cup of coffee or tea. 

Please prepare for the weather with appropriate equipment. The walk is open to everyone and does not require an advance registration

Board game night 15.3.

The BRIDGES project and Joensuu Board Gamers club will organize together a board game night on Wednesday 15th of March at 5 pm forward in Suvas meeting room (Suvantokatu 6).

During the evening, we play different board games. Everyone is welcome to play, whether you are a beginner or an expert. There is no pre-registration to the event. The games can be found on site, but you can also bring your own favorite game. Participation is free of charge and you will receive the BRIDGES project overall badge as a memory of the evening.

Save the date! Day trip to Elovaara 15.4.

On Saturday 15.4. BRIDGES project organizes a day trip to Elovaara nature trails. Elovaara’s nature trail is 4 km long and there are fireplaces along the route so it's a wonderful day trip destination. In Elovaara you can move around with your own group or join with ISYY's staff. More information about the event and registration is coming soon to ISYY's website, so remember to follow.

 
 
     
 
 

BRIDGES breakfasts 28.-30.3.

Come start your day with a nutritious breakfast and getting to know your fellow students, and you'll be energetic for the rest of the day!

Next breakfasts are organized in week 13 28.-30.3. in restaurant Aura at campus. Breakfast starts at 8:15 am and ends at 9 am.

The registration starts in Kide.app on 14.3. at 12 noon. Participation is free of charge and there are seats for 13 people at a time.

Upcoming themes in Coffee & Friends

During the spring, the “Coffee & Friends” is organized every Tuesday 4 pm-6 pm in Joensuu at Aurora’s AU110 room and in Kuopio at Studentia’s chapel. “Coffee & Friends” is the students' living room, where you can rest after lectures, hang out with other students and enjoy a little snack. You can come to “Coffee & Friends” alone or with a friend.

As a student tutor, you will get to know new students, can practice your language skills (English or otherwise) and you will also get credits! Tutoring before your exchange studies is a good way to get oriented and practice networking, and tutoring after your exchange is an opportunity to continue gaining international experience during your studies. Snowshoeing adventure (30.3)


Welcome to snow shoeing in Kuhasalo nature trail on March 30th. We'll start up at the parking lot of the nature trail at 10 am.

The trail is about two kilometers long and on even ground. No previous snow shoeing experience is needed and the snowshoes and poles will be provided. You'll need clothing according to the weather and food and drink of your choice since we'll be taking a break on a campfire site. Make sure you have boots for the snow shoeing and a thick jacket for the break.

The trip will take approximately 2,5 hrs and will fit 8 people. The trip is completely free of charge. Remember to sign up! Signing up and any questions you may have can be sent to this email address: helin.lotta@gmail.com

 
 
     
 
 

Multicultural Coffee by the Red Cross (every other Sunday)

Do you want to meet new people? Have you been feeling a bit lonely, or are you finding it hard to find a community? Come join us for our multicultural coffee, whether you are a refugee, a student, a local, or an immigrant. Come join us at Torikatu 17 every alternate Sunday, starting 12.02, for an afternoon of games, good conversation, and coffee. This is the perfect opportunity to make new friends and build community!

We are there on Wednesdays, starting on the 11th of January 2023, from 10:00-12:00. (18th of January unfortunately is canceled.) You don’t need an appointment.

We can help you, if you have moved to Joensuu from abroad and you have questions related to:

  • general information and guidance on day-to-day life in Joensuu
  • you need information about the services in Joensuu
  • residence permits and applying for Finnish citizenship.

If necessary, we can book an appointment to our office at Malmikatu 5b, 4th floor.

What is my Student Association? 

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you! 

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

Information about Weekly Feed

This is an issue of Weekly Feed at Joensuu campus. Weekly Feed is the English language newsletter of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY). You are receiving this letter on your email because you are a member of ISYY and are studying at Joensuu campus or because you have joined the mailing list yourself. 

Weekly Feed provides you with current information on matters related to the Student Union, UEF or other organisations close to students, such as FSHS. In addition, the newsletter provides you with information on events taking place at campus or the campus city.

Weekly Feed is published on Tuesdays during the academic year, with the exception of holidays and a few other days. If you do not want to receive the newsletter anymore, you can unsubscribe the letter via the link (Click here to unsubscribe) located on the bottom of the letter.
