ISYY Elections 8 November - cast your vote!

The eight ISYY Representative Council Elections will be held tomorrow 8 November. You can cast your vote in Tuudo until tomorrow at 18.00. You have a right to vote if you are a member of ISYY and registered as a present student by 24 October.

The easiest way to vote is via Tuudo app. Click to the Representative Council Elections -page from the Tuudo side menu, scroll down the page and click the button "Voting System and Candidate Gallery". It is as easy as that to find the place! If you go to the page via Tuudo app, you are already signed in with your UEF account. You can also vote with a browser in vaalit.tuudo.fi!

Still thinking who to vote? ISYY has sent an email to everyone last week. The mail contains information about voting and useful links, e.g. to the Election Compass, where you can familiarize yourself with the candidates.

  CAST YOUR VOTE!

Why also you should use your right to vote?

You are paying the ISYY Membership Fee yearly, which has now been 75€ for this academic year. ISYY has in total 14 000+ members in Joensuu and Kuopio. With these elections you are choosing 39 students to represent all of our members in the ISYY Council for the next two years. The ISYY Council decides e.g.:

  • the amount of ISYY Membership Fee
  • how the collected fee is used (ISYY's Budget)
  • what ISYY does (ISYY´s Action Plan)
  • who represents students in UEF administration
  • what are ISYY's values in questions considering student's life (ISYY's Value Paper)
  • additionally the ISYY Council decides e.g. about ISYY's Strategy, Environmental Programme and Equality Plan which works as a base for all of our actions

Use your right to vote and vote a candidate, who you want to be deciding about these things!

  Cast your vote!

Join us in waiting the election results in Election Night!

You can join us to the Election Night to wait the results of the elections on Wednesday 8.11.2023 at 17.30-20.00 on both campuses, in Joensuu in auditorium AU100 (Aurora) and in Kuopio in auditorium CA100 (Canthia). There is some snacks served!

ISYY's Voting Stand on the Election Day

You can cast your vote also on the ISYY's Voting Stand on the actual Election Day 8 November from 10 am to 2 pm.

You can find us in Joensuu from Carelia lobby and in Kuopio from Snellmania lobby.

From the Student Union voting stand you can find information on the election and voting and if you wish you have a possibility to use ISYY's laptop to cast your vote.

We are serving coffee, tea and voting overall patches.

Intensive course of historical dances

When: Fridays 27.10. - 17.11.2023 at
18.00 - 20.00

Where: in the pedagogical hall of Mehtimäkihalli (Kisapolku 1), Joensuu

Welcome to learn historical European ballroom dances and historically inspired dances. The dances are beginner-friendly social group dances. Everyone is welcome to join as they are and regardless of previous dance experience.

For the workshop you need: a water bottle, comfortable training clothes, dance/sport shoes or socks. There is a light wooden floor in Mehtimäkihalli, so black-soled shoes are prohibited.

You don't need your own partner of dance experience for the workshops. The instructions are in both English and Finnish. Teaching methods are gender-neutral. Once a week we go through four dances. You may join one session or all four of them.

Historical dances are social court dances from the European Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Empire eras. The information about them is based on the notebooks of dance masters, and they have been reconstructed from historical sources, including the music. Nowadays, new dances based on historical choreographies and modern music are also created.

Registration via the SYKETTÄ calendar

Course participants are welcome to the Academic History Ball of the University of Eastern Finland on Saturday 18 November 2023 in the ballroom of Art Museum Onni. All the dances of the course are danced at the ball. Click here for more information about the Autumn Ball and for contact information.

Participate in the survey:  Online exams and remote monitoring

Dear Teacher or Student, please answer the survey, and influence the procurement of proctoring software for online exams!

Do you think it should be possible to monitor remotely conducted online exams more closely? Would there be users for this kind of software in the University of Eastern Finland?
What kind of features should the software have?

The mapping of the procurement of remote monitoring software, aka proctoring software, for online exams continues. Now we are investigating UEF teachers' and students’ opinions and views on the matter: whether there is a need for procurement, how much use the software would have and what kind of features should be found in it.

The survey was created based on the responses to an online exam-related survey conducted earlier in the autumn. This survey is only aimed at the staff and students of the University of Eastern Finland, so that we can get a better idea of what kind of needs and ideas exist in our organization in particular. More information available on the attachment.

Answer the survey no later than 30.11.2023 and influence future exam practices! All responses are anonymous.

Remember your reflector!

According to the law, pedestrians should generally use a reflector in the dark.
A driver driving with low-beam lights will detect a pedestrian without a reflector approximately 50 metres away. With a reflector the pedestrian can be seen as far as 350 metres away. Reflectors improve pedestrian visibility also in lighted areas. Street and advertising lights and the shadows of trees and bushes contribute to a challenging setting. Rain and fog impair the driver’s visibility even more. More information on the website of Finnish Road Safety Council
