HAPPY TUESDAY!

Shrovetide (laskiainen) is a mid-winter celebration in Finland. Shrovetide celebrates the arrival of spring both on Sunday (laskiaissunnuntai) 11 Feb and the next Tuesday (laskiaistiistai) 13 Feb. As a winter carnival, laskiainen is a time for both fun winter activities and eating delicious foods. Sunday is usually the time to go outdoors and enjoy the snow by going sledging! According to traditional beliefs, the further your sled slides, the better your crops are next year. Finnish shrovetide foods include hernekeitto (split pea soup) and laskiaispulla (shrovetide bun) - a cardamom-spiced wheat bun that is split and filled with either raspberry or strawberry jam and a generous layer of whipped cream.

Enjoy your week!

Get to know the ISYY Board!

During the last week's we've been introducing ISYY's Board 2024 in our social media channels (Instagram, Facebook). You can also find the introductions from ISYY's website: Executive Board Contact Info, Representative Council Contact Info.

We, ISYY Board, are working here towards a better student life and we are always more than happy to hear all kinds of ideas and feedback from our members. You can contact us directly or send feedback with our website form: Give Feedback

The Executive Board, which is elected by the ISYY Council, exercises administrative authority, executive power, and decision-making power in our Student Union as laid down in ISYY's Rules. Did you now that you can see our public documents, such as ISYY' Rules in our website's Documents Section. Since ISYY's administrative language is Finnish, many of the documents can be found only in Finnish. But for example ISYY Rules and Agendas of ISYY Council can be found in english also.

ISYY Board will be posting about their actions frequently in ISYY's social media, e.g. the Interest Advocacy News posts, that will be published monthly.

What is my Student Association?

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

See the list of all Student Associations on ISYY's website to find out your own Student Association:
