HAPPY TUESDAY!

Today is Shrove Tuesday aka 'laskiaistiistai'. Finnish shrovetide foods include hernekeitto (split pea soup) and laskiaispulla (shrovetide bun) - a cardamom-spiced wheat bun that is split and filled with either raspberry or strawberry jam and a generous layer of whipped cream. The contents of the shrovetide bun always spark a playful debate with people from different parts of Finland. Usually the division is between east and west - those from the west coast of Finland think that the bun should include almond paste and whipped cream, but of course us from Eastern Finland know that the only right combination is jam and whipped cream. Read more about Finnish Shrovetide here.

Today is also Sports Afternoon, which means that the afternoon is lecture-free and SYKETTÄ offers you a great variety of sports activities to choose from! Take a look at the sports selection on SYKETTÄ Joensuu's website here.

Kind regards,

Salla
Coordinator of International Affairs in Joensuu (kv.joensuu(at)isyy.fi)

What is my Student Association?

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.
