In the beginning of September we will kick-off the new academic year!

And what does that mean?

Campus Happening and City Orienteering are events that start the academic year at the University of Eastern Finland. The events are held on the same date with the UEF Opening Ceremony, on Thursday 7th September 2023. The events are held on both campuses at the same time.

The Campus Happening begins right after the Opening Ceremony and it gathers new and continuing students and also UEF Staff together to the campus area. The Campus Happening will act also as a kick-off event for the City Orienteering that begins right after the Campus Happening ends.

City Orienteering is organised especially for new students. Teams will go around the campus city and complete fun tasks at the checkpoints. The students will get to know each other as well as the campus city. You will meet e.g. student associations and ISYY Clubs at the checkpoints!

Learn more about the event and get ready to kick-start this academic year together with the whole university community!

Students' wellbeing and communality need to be promoted even after the BRIDGES project

The BRIDGES project of UEF and ISYY is coming to an end in December 2023. In the spring of 2023, ISYY asked by a questionnaire to survey the students' wishes and needs for ISYY's wellbeing and communality work in the future after the project. We received a total of 179 responses.

The responses showed that the needs of students have not changed/decreased since the pandemic. Respondents felt that there is still a need for low-threshold recreational events that promote wellbeing and communality. Interdisciplinary and non-alcoholic events were particularly in demand.

– On the basis of the replies to the questionnaire, ISYY will start to explore how the wellbeing and communality work can continue after the end of the project, says Eetu Hyvönen, Chairperson of the ISYY’s Executive Board.

Help out a fellow exchange student by filling out a survey for her Bachelor’s Thesis

Dear Student,

My name is Hannah Buenaventura, and I am currently working on my graduation thesis in my final year at the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Management Studies at the University of Aruba. The aim is to better understand the factors that are related to culture shock and how culture shock affects international students.

This survey consists of a series of questions regarding your personal experience as an international student. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

I deeply appreciate your participation in this survey. Please be assured that all your responses will be kept strictly anonymous and will be used for research purposes only.

Thank you in advance for your time and valuable input. Your insights will help me gain a better understanding of how to enhance the international students’ experience as well as how to mitigate the effects of culture shock.
