HAPPY TUESDAY!

ISYY is taking part in the Sustainable Development Week, co-organised with the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL), from 7th to 13th November. We have shared in ISYY's social media channels  sustainability themed posts, that are created in cooperation with UEF. From our sustainability posts you can find information e.g. about how sustainability is taken into account in UEF, how you can live your everyday life more sustainably and also why it is important to also study these themes.

To learn more about sustainability and how to make your life more sustainable, you could visit this website: Eco Friendly Habits. If you're an exchange student and want to make your exchange experience greener from start to finnish, check out the Green Erasmus project.

Have a nice week!

Kind regards,
Elina

Answer ISYY member survey and take part in a raffle!

How has the service been in the Student Union office? Do you know what you get as you pay the membership fee to ISYY? Are the possibilities to make an impact in our Student Union and University familiar to you? How ISYY could improve its office services or communications? Tell us!

The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) has launched a member survey, which purpose is to collect information about how familiar our members are with the Student Union and its services, to collect feedback about our services and also ideas for improving our services and activities. The survey is open until 4.12.2022 and all ISYY members who answered can join a raffle where we have two prizes for each campus. Student2Student councelling

UEF wants to take care of its students’ well-being and is offering its students the opportunity to have counselling with a trained peer counsellor. If you are an international degree student or an exchange student, you will receive an SMS from UEF during the month of November. The messages will be sent out gradually over the course of the month. If you respond to the message, a peer counsellor will contact you by telephone.

You can discuss anything related to your studies and well-being. If you are not in a convenient place to talk when the peer counsellor phones you, you can also schedule another appointment to be held at a better time. In your response to the SMS, you can include the dates and hours when you would like to be called. Responding to the SMS is toll-free. You can also reach UEF’s Student2Student peer counsellors by calling +358 29 445 8580 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 2pm and 5pm. The online livechat in Kamu is open during those hours too. You can also leave a callback request at any time, and a peer counsellor will call you when the service is open.

Peer councellors

Peer counsellors at UEF are master’s degree students in social sciences and psychology, who have been selected and trained for their job. They work under the supervision of UEF’s study psychologists and campus pastors. The aim of peer counselling is to provide high-quality but easy-access counselling for students. The foundation of peer counselling is in offering non-judgmental, compassionate, and open-minded support and a way forward in your unique situation. Discussions with peer counsellors are voluntary, confidential, and free of charge. When you call, your phone number is visible to the peer counsellor, but the chat offers the option of full anonymity. When necessary, peer counsellors can help you find further support for your situation or the answer to a question on your mind. No concern is too small or too big to be shared with a peer counsellor.

What kind of help do peer counsellors offer?

  • Support and tips for study techniques and study routine
  • Tools for stress management
  • Support for loneliness
  • Support for anxiety
  • Information about services provided by the university and campus cities
  • Helping you find suitable freetime activities in your city
  • Supporting you when you feel home-sick or are struggling to adapt to a new culture
  • Support for relationship issues
