If you're a degree student at UEF, remember to pay the FSHS fee by 15 November! The fee must be paid by all students who are completing a degree at a Finnish institution of higher education and have registered as attending for the term in question. You do not have to pay the healthcare fee if you have social security coverage in another EU or EEA country, Switzerland, Great Britain, Northern Ireland or the EU. In this case, you can use the services of the FSHS even if you do not pay the healthcare fee. Read more about the payment from KELA's website.

Congrats to the new ISYY Council!

You decided and the new ISYY Representative Council is now elected! The voter turnout for the ninth Representative Council elections of ISYY was 20.72%, which means 3,134 votes were cast during elections.

DeeKu and Itä-Suomen Vihreä Vasemmisto celebrated their electoral victory, DeeKu receiving 8 seats and Itä-Suomen Vihreä Vasemmisto 7 seats in the Council. Candidates who received the most votes were Janina Gunnar (172 votes) from DeeKu and Sara Koskinen (109 votes) from Terveystietelijät.

The new Representative Council will gather for the first time on 27 November 2025, when the members will choose the Chairpersons for the new Council and appoint the next year’s Executive Board. The Representative Council’s term of office is two years.

This autumn's Smiles and Complaints Week is held 17.–23.11.2025. During the Smiles and Complaints Week, you can give feedback via the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) to ISYY, the University, FSHS (Finnish Student Health Service), Compass Group, or any other party involved in students’ life.

What deserves a smile? What’s wrong? What gives you grey hair? Tell us, and we’ll take your feedback forward! The feedback is given anonymously. You can give us feedback starting on Monday 17 October by filling in an electronic form.

ISYY Representative Council Meeting's Decisions 6/2025

The ISYY Representative Council had its sixth meeting of the year on 28 October, and the minutes of the meeting are now available in Finnish on the ISYY’s website’s Documents section.

The Representative Council discussed ISYY’s membership fee for academic year 2026–2027 and elected Student Representatives for UEF Administrative Bodies. After some debate, the membership fee was confirmed as proposed by the Executive Board: 73 € for degree students and 56 € for postgraduate students (vote 21–11). The Council also appointed Student Representatives to bodies including the UEF Board, Collegiate Body, and Faculty Councils. Some positions remain open, and a supplementary application round is still open.

Clothes Swap-event in Kuopio

Do you have clothes you don’t wear anymore? This is your chance to give your wardrobe a fresh update!

The Clothes Swap-event will be organised on both campuses in November. Bring a maximum of five (5) clothes you don’t use and exchange them for other pieces of clothing. The clothes must be in good condition. We will not accept broken or dirty clothes. This is a great way to promote sustainability and at the same time meet like-minded people!

At Kuopio campus, the event will be organised over three days:

• Tuesday 11 November at Snellmania main lobby at 11 am - 2.30 pm
• Wednesday 12 November at Lukema (ISYY office) at 11 am - 2.30 pm
• Thurdday 13 November at Snellmania main lobby at 11 am - 2.30 pm

General Assembly of SYL 14.-15.11.

Highest decision-making body of the National Union of the University Students in Finland (SYL) is the General Assembly. It meets once a year in November. SYL members – student unions – elect each one’s own delegation to decide on the union’s economy in the coming year as well as to elect the board for next year.

How many members of the delegation and how many votes it has depends on how many members the student union has. ISYY has 16 votes in the GA. ISYY's chair of the Executive Board, Emilia Enroth, is a candidate for the SYL Board 2026.

The General Assembly is held at Espoo Otaniemi on 14–15 November. The GA is typically streamed to SYL's YouTube-channel @sylvideot. ISYY is sending a delegation to the General Assembly of SYL.

KYY-liiga  - Floorball tournament

KYY-liiga is an interdisciplinary floorball tournament and it's to be held in the spring of 2026. The games will start on 21 January 2026.

The games of the Elite and Fun series are played in one or two blocks at Studentia. The games are played on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 7 pm on fields 1 and 2. The final tournament will be played on the whole court on 15 April at Studentia from 4 pm to 7 pm.

The team consists of at least 8 players (at least 4  present), one of whom is the so-called captain and one of whom is the so-called manager. All the team members need to have a valid SYKETTÄ sticker (ball sport or group class).

President Stubb at the Kuopio campus tomorrow 12 Nobember

President Stubb to deliver a public lecture at the University of Eastern Finland on 12 November 2025.

In the afternoon, President Stubb will deliver a public lecture and meet local Kuopio residents in the auditorium of the Snellmania building at the University of Eastern Finland at 12.45.

November exchange application period is open!

In November, students may apply for exchanges during academic year 2026-2027. Application period is open from 1-17 Nov 2025.

UEF registration for spring semester 2026 is now open

Registration for spring 2026 started on 1 November 2025 and ends on 15 January 2026. Please, check in Peppi under “Attendance data” if you have already registered for spring semester as present or absent.

All bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral students must register as being present or absent at the university within the registration period.

New Mind Matters online course for students

How can you take care of yourself? How about your fellow students? How could you develop a stronger sense of connection with other students?

The new Mind Matters -online course offers tools and insights to help you promote both your own mental health and that of your fellow students. The course is free of charge, lasts only a couple of hours, and is suitable for all students. After the course you will:

• Understand what factors affect mental health and feel able to influence both your own and your peers’ mental health and well-being.
• Recognize situations where you can show compassion toward yourself and your fellow students.
• Gain tools for talking about difficult issues or concerns and for supporting your peers.
• Get tips and ideas for strengthening community in higher education,and recognise situations where you can help prevent loneliness.
• Understand that each of us can have an impact on our surroundings – and that your actions matter, too!

Your mind matters – join us to learn how even small actions can improve your own and other's well-being and make studying more meaningful for you and others!

Take the Survey on Social Innovation

A Europe-wide survey explores what kinds of knowledge and skills are needed to develop better solutions to today’s societal challenges. The results will be used to design new learning materials. The survey is carried out by the European Social Innovation Campus (ESIC) project, co-funded by the European Union.

The survey is aimed at three target groups (approx. 20 minutes to complete) and is available in several languages.

Coffee & Friends

This autumn’s Coffee & Friends starts today on both campuses! The café meets on Tuesdays at 3-5pm at Lukema in Kuopio.

Coffee & Friends event offers low-threshold hanging out after lectures and the opportunity to meet other students over coffee and a snack. All students of the University of Eastern Finland are welcome to Coffee & Friends. You can come to the café alone or with a friend. In addition, Coffee & Friends has a changing chill programme. Participation in the programme is voluntary and you can come for a while or for the whole time. Participation is free of charge and does not require pre-registration.
