HAPPY TUESDAY!

This week's newsletter is a double edition since next week is the winter holiday and Weekly Feed isn't published during holidays. The next Weekly Feed is sent on 14 March. Also, please note that the ISYY offices are closed on week 10 due to the holiday week so if you need to visit the office, please do so by Thursday 2 March.

If you are on campus, go check out the Winterfest event that is organised outside ISYY's office! Along with the team competition, there are lots of other things going on at Savilahti during the day which don't require registration and are free of charge.

ISYY offices will be closed for the Winter Holiday

Please note that during the next week 10 (6.-12.3.) ISYY offices are closed because of the winter holidays. If you need to visit ISYY office, it might be a good idea to visit during this week.

Exceptions in the opening hours:

  • 28.2. Kuopio office is open only from 10 am to 12 pm (Winterfest)

Sober Disco is coming, are you ready?

ISYY is organising the first ever Sober Disco, in other words, non-alcoholic evening party, for students at Kulttuuriareena 44 on Tuesday 21.3. from 7 pm to 1 am!

During this decade, alcohol-free parties have become increasingly popular. At Sober Disco you can enjoy live music and have fun without alcohol. During the evening, quench your thirst with delicious mocktails.

Advance ticket sales start on Kide.app on March 1st at 1 pm. The advance ticket price is 3 € (+ 0.5 € service fee), which includes the event's unique overall badge. Advance tickets are limited, so get yours quickly. Read more at isyy.fi/soberdisco.

Get to know Student Assosiations and Clubs during ISYY Association Days

ISYY organises Association Days on 29.-30.3.2023 at Joensuu campus (Carelia Lobby) and on 29.3.2023 at Kuopio Campus (Snellmania lobby). Come and find out what ISYY and associations close to it have to offer. It’s also possible that you’ll find some new activities from Association Days! ISYY Association Days are open for everybody and there’s no entrance fee. You can also purchase new overall patches.

Get to know Parliamentary Election Candidates in Snellmania 16.3.

Welcome to the Parliamentary Election Fair in Joensuu organised by the Student Unions of the University of Eastern Finland and Savonia UAS! Come and get to know and discuss with the Parliamentary Election Candidates.

The event is organised in the UEF Campus in the Snellmania lobby on Thursday 16th March from 10 am until 2 pm. Maybe you'll find yourself a candidate to vote?

The Parties attending the Fair will be published when the enrollment has closed on 2nd March. All the Parties registered in Finland have been invited to the event.

Welcome to Kuopio's "Coffee & Friends" events!

During the spring, the “Coffee & Friends” is organised every Tuesday from 4 pm till 6 pm in Studentia’s Chapel.

“Coffee & Friends” as a meeting place opens up the opportunity to get to know other students in a relaxed atmosphere. This is the students' living room, where you can rest and enjoy coffee and a snack. There will be a changing programme. You can come to “Coffee & Friends” alone or with a friend.

Trip to Puijonlaakso and barbeque

The BRIDGES project also organises day trips to nearby nature for students. This time we are heading to Puijonlaakso in Kuopio on Wednesday 15.3. at 3 pm-5 pm to enjoy nature and barbeque.

Let's first gather together at Puijonsarvi (Puijonsarventie 63, 70260 Kuopio) at 3 pm, from where we walk together to a barbeque place.

The registration for the trip ends on 14th of March at 3 pm. Participating is free of charge, but you need to bring your own snacks to barbeque.

Note! Wear winter and weather-appropriate gear and choose shoes with good traction. You might need a flashlight/headlamp also.

Would you like a new friend for studying, hobby or exercise?

ISYY, Student2Student and SYKETTÄ's service gives you the opportunity to find a friend/friends for active study, hobbies or exercise. The service brings together three different areas (study buddy, hobby buddy and sports buddy), each of which has its own application. You can choose one area to fill out the application according to your own needs, or if you wish, you can fill out and search for friends from all areas.

On Saturday 1.4. BRIDGES project organises a day trip to Koli national park. Last year the trip was a success. In Koli you can move around with your own group or join ISYY's staff. More information about the event and registration is coming soon to ISYY's website, so remember to follow.

Online training calendar for winter vacation!

While our instructors are on vacation, you can train with training videos. The videos are available at the time you choose and you can use them as many times as you like! Take care of your well-being also during the holiday week and work out with our instructors wherever you are at :) Notice: the videos are only in Finnish. The videos are on the sports calendar from 6.3. to 12.3.
 

Cancellations at Studentia

  • On Wednesdays 8.3. and 15.3. the sports hall is not in use from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • On Sunday 19.3. the sports hall is in use after 6.30 pm

Free physical activity counselling for students

SYKETTÄ Kuopio University Sports Services’ new physical activity counselling service offers free and low-threshold individual counselling and support for students who do not exercise enough for their health and well-being, or who need advice on how to become more active in their everyday lives, or support in starting physical activity.

Physical activity counselling consists of a maximum of five meetings with a physical activity counsellor. The content of the meetings is planned according to the client's wishes and objectives. The aim of the counselling is to help the client to find a way of moving that they like and to increase their well-being in everyday life. The service is intended for students of UEF and does not require a SYKETTÄ sticker.

Nutrition counseling

SYKETTÄ offers practical and evidence based nutrition services for students and personnel who have bought SYKETTÄ stickers. Available nutrition services in English are nutrition counseling, cooking classes and “Ask from Nutrition Specialist” -form.

A possible bus drivers’ strike may stop most of the bus traffic between 1.3.2023-10.3.2023!

If the negotiating parties cannot reach an agreement, traffic will stop on the following bus lines:

  • Urban lines 2, 4-40
  • Part of the rural lines

Following bus lines will operate normally:

  • Urban lines 1 and 3
  • Siilinjärvi bus lines 42-48
  • Nilsiä bus lines 62-68

In addition, there may be exceptions in traffic on certain bus lines. Check Vilkku’s website for more information.

Student tutors for new international students: application period has been extended until 15 March!

As a student tutor, you will get to know new students, can practice your language skills (English or otherwise) and you will also get credits! Tutoring before your exchange studies is a good way to get oriented and practice networking, and tutoring after your exchange is an opportunity to continue gaining international experience during your studies. Sewing Society on Wed 1 March from 4.30 pm till 7 pm at Kuopio Museum

At trousers' workshop you can continue the life of old trousers. You can fix broken trousers by using a sewing machine. No need to register, just come when you want with your trousers and start to fix them if there is space at the workshop. We have some fabric pieces and threads, but you can bring your own materials and zippers to change, if you need. Free entry! Read more in Finnish via the link below.

Student tickets only 11 euros to Angels and demons concert on March 3!

Kuopio Symphony Orchestra’s ANGELS AND DEMONS concert on Friday March 3 at 7 pm at the Kuopio Music Centre brings to the spotlight Astor Piazzolla’s tango nuevo, beloved Finnish dancer Minna Tervamäki and bandoneonist Henrik Sandås.

Come and enjoy the intense and electrifying sound & rhythm of tango nuevo in the midst of Finnish winter! This is the premiere of this unique performance.

 
 
 

The starting point for the Suite ángeles y diablos for bandoneon and symphony orchestra was a story of an angel appearing in an apartment block in Buenos Aires to cleanse the souls of its inhabitants. The programme also includes one of Piazzolla’s most impressive works, the Aconcagua concerto, as well as Osvaldo Golijov’s Last Round, the melody of which is familiar from Carlos Gardel’s tango My Beloved Buenos Aires. The orchestra is conducted by Eugene Tzigane.

Language Café by Kompassi

This year's first language cafe will be held in collaboration with the Kuopio city library on Wed 15.3. at 4.15 pm. As part of the library's Satakielikuukausi -event month, the theme of the language cafe is 'books, authors and literature'. Come and get to know literary culture around the world!

Of course, you can also chat about different topics with the table leaders or learn a few sentences in different languages.

A new event will take over the streets of Kuopio when the interdisciplinary APPROVENTURE takes place for the first time on Thursday 16.3.2023! Do you dare to go on a discovery trip through Kuopio and hunt for the needed stamps from places to visit? For your achievements, you will receive wonderful overall badges and climb the ranks to the top of the approventurers! This is an opportunity for you and your friends to experience the unique thrill of adventure right here in Kuopio! The event culminates in an all-time rave party, starring amazing artists!

Appro, often translated as bar crawl, is a typical Finnish student event where you visit as many bars as you can and collect stamps from every single one of them.
