ISYY’s Language Cafés are starting again!

Do you want to learn new languages or brush up your old skills and meet new people? We have the perfect opportunity for you: ISYY's Language Cafés! You can also earn credits by participating in the Language Café activities.

In a Language Café, your peers and friends are your teachers and at the same time, they can be your students. Join the Language Café info session on Thursday 20 January either at 9 am or at 4 pm on Google Meet to find out more! The content of the sessions is the same so you can choose which time suits you better. See the Facebook event here.

ISYY Is Recruiting Members for the Restaurant Services Customer Committee

The Joint Customer Committee of the Compass Group (formerly Fazer -Amica) restaurant campuses will begin its work in early 2022. The task of the restaurant committee is to monitor the sales of restaurants, process the feedback provided and make suggestions and measures related to the operation of the restaurants. The restaurant committee meets about once a month.

ISYY is looking for 2-4 student representatives to the customer committee of the Compass Group restaurants on both the Joensuu and Kuopio campuses. Applications with possible CVs must be submitted to Mikko Aaltonen at koso@isyy.fi by 12 noon on Monday, January 31, 2022.

The ISYY office has a book exchange shelf. Come and pick up some books to read for free or if you have books you don't need anymore, you can leave them on the shelf. Literature in all languages is welcome! You can browse the shelf during office's opening hours.

What is BRIDGES?

The University of Eastern Finland has received a special grant from the Ministry of Education and Culture for the years 2021-2022 to promote well-being of students and prevent exclusion. The project has several subcontractors, one of which is ISYY. The aim of the BRIDGES project is to reduce the experience of loneliness and to prevent exclusion through activities that increase students' community and well-being.

SYKETTÄ Kuopio group classes and ball sports open from 17.1. onwards

  • All the services are in use but the number of participants are limited for group classes, ball turns and regular shifts. Read more.
  • At the moment it is very important to take good care of appropriate hygiene and safe distance when entering into Sports Facilities. Read instructions for safe exercising from here.

One month sticker

The sticker is for you, if you only stay in the city for a little while or don’t want to commit to the whole season. The price of the one-month sticker is 15 euros and it includes all the SYKETTÄ services, eg. group classes, gyms, ball sports and ice hockey. Read more.

Student organisations at UEF

Student Organisations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Organisations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you!

Each Student Organisation has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.  See the list below to find your own Student Organisation in Kuopio.

 
 
 

Dentina ry
Dentina ry came back to life in October 2010 as dentistry studies re-started in Kuopio, and a new generation of students arrived. Dentina attends to its members’ interests, organises all kinds of fun activities and brings dentistry students together to strengthen collegiality. You may recognise us from our black overalls that have a white pocket or our subject organisation's unique socks!

Fortis ry
Fortis ry is the student organisation of pharmacy students in UEF, Kuopio campus. You’ll recognise us from our dark green overalls. In addition to taking all our students’ interests into account while making decisions concerning studies, Fortis offers a chance for our international students to get to know their Finnish peers in different events such as sitsit, sports events, parties and hangout events. We also organise educational events regarding our profession throughout the year. As an exchange student you’ll get our membership for free during your stay and are welcome to grab free coffee as well as hang out at the Fortis office. Hyeena ry
Hyeena ry is the student organisation for the students of environmental science and applied physics in University of Eastern Finland, Kuopio campus. For its members Hyeena ry arranges events like sitsit, parties, excursions, hangout-evenings and sport events. Hyeena also helps students in integrating to academic lifestyle and protects its members rights at the university. Members of Hyeena wear red overalls with a picture of a hyena in the back. Kulti ry
Kulti ry is the student organisation of biomedicine students in UEF who carry red overalls with white pockets. We advocate the interests of our students, e.g. in matters concerning studies. Around the year we organise educational and entertaining events, such as working life events and parties. We bring our students together with the working life in the field of biomedicine. Our clubroom (aka Kultihuone) is located in the 2nd floor of Snellmania, near Café Hav a Java at the bomb shelter (SN2064). Come and join us for coffee!

Kuopion lääketieteen opiskelijat KuoLO ry
KuoLO ry is a student organisation for medical students in Kuopio. You can recognise med students from black overalls and good atmosphere! In addition to supervising and promoting the interests of students we arrange many different kinds of events from which the toga party is the most traditional one. Interdisciplinary events are hosted by the third year students and our sitsi-club KuoSi. You can join many different kinds of clubs, sport teams, sing in a med student's own choir, join our international events, do charity or join the musical "Speksi"! Preemio ry is a student organisation for Business students of the University of Eastern Finland on Kuopio campus. Retikka ry
Retikka ry is the student organisation of nutrition students in the University of Eastern Finland. Association looks after the interests of its members and offers leisure activities for them as well. In autumn nutrition students traditionally have events like “baptising” event for the freshmen students as well as pre-Christmas party. In spring you can find nutrition students with their bright green overalls for example selling delicious brownies at the University. Nutrition students are famous for their food (and appetite) at their parties – both are almost endless.

Finnish Student Health Service (FSHS)

You can use FSHS services in the spring semester if you are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and you have registered as an attending student at the UEF.

Note! Degree students remember to also pay the university student's health care fee to Kela. The payment will remain unchanged in 2022 so it is 35.80€ for the spring semester. Read more about the payment and how to pay for it here.

Kuopio

  • The regional coronavirus steering group recommends to wear a mask when distancing recommendations cannot be effectively observed.
  • The University of Eastern Finland recommends the use of masks on campus! Also, UEF recommends the use of the Koronavilkku app to its students and staff.
  • If you have any flu symptoms and suspect that you might have been infected with Covid-19, here is what you can do: 
    • You should take Omaolo symptom assessment online. (Available in Finnish and English.)
    • If you think you have coronavirus, you can call Kuopio City Corona Help Line and book an appointment for a test: +358 44 704 6700. The line may be very busy at the moment because of the number of cases and exposures, but please wait patiently or call them again. UEF student Bible Club (UBC)

Come join us as we facilitate the spiritual growth and unity of all Christian students and staff on the UEF campus. We achieve this goal by an extensive and inspired study of the bible, sharing testimonies, questions and answer sessions, personal counselling and discipleship hours, quality praying time, and gospel outreaches.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, we meet virtually every other Saturday, therefore Kuopio and Joensuu students can participate. Time is 18:00 – 20:00. Join UEF Kuopio Student choir!

UEF Kuopion ylioppilaskuoro (UEF Kuopio Student choir) is a mixed choir operating on the Kuopio Campus. We are especially looking for new male voices. Our main project in spring 2022 is Carmina Burana by Carl Orff, in collaboration with Kuopio Symphony Orchestra and other choirs.

We are arranging open online rehearsals in Teams Tue 25.1. 18:00-20:00. First, you’ll attend the rehearsals to see how we rehearse and after that, small auditions (any song of your choice) will be held. Welcome!

You only live once!

A symphony orchestra will perform the twenty best James Bond theme tunes from the first film to the latest. The concert will be at the Kuopio Music Center on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 7 pm. Tickets are sold via Lippupiste's website or from the Music Center.

The soloists are Sami Pitkämö and Aili Ikonen. Sami Pitkämö is familiar from the tv-program Dancing with the Stars and Aili Ikonen sings for example in the famous and talented Rajaton-ensemble. In addition, pop-singer Mira Luoti and jazz-pianist Iiro Rantala will visit the stage. The concert will be hosted by actor Aku Hirviniemi and conducted by Harri Hyppölä. It is 60 years since the first James Bond film. Come and celebrate with the symphony orchestra and great soloists!

Brand Yourself and Get Hired – Day 3.2.2022

This virtually arranged event is designed for both Savonia’s and UEF’s foreign degree students who want to get hired by local growth and internationally oriented companies as well as for local companies interested in recruiting international workforce.

During the event the students have an opportunity to learn from the companies how to brand themselves and get noticed by the companies. The companies have also the opportunity to learn from each other how to get in contact with international students and what opportunities international students will bring to the companies. The companies will pitch their career and internship openings suitable for English-speaking international students during the event. The companies and students also have an opportunity for discussions and questions.

Internship in the administration of the Erasmus+ Programme

The internship is positioned in the Unit of International higher education cooperation at the Finnish National Agency for Education. The unit supports the internationalisation of higher education and promotes the international education co-operation of higher education institutions. All Finnish higher education institutions are our partners. 

We are looking for a higher education student to work as an intern in administrative tasks related to the Erasmus+ Programme for higher education and the unit’s other programmes promoting international cooperation between higher education institutions.
