Students' wellbeing and communality are needed to be promoted even after the BRIDGES project

The BRIDGES project of UEF and ISYY is coming to an end in December 2023. The aim of the project has been to support students in dealing with the problems caused by the pandemic, and thus to promote student wellbeing and communality at the University of Eastern Finland.

In the spring of 2023, ISYY asked by a questionnaire to survey the students' wishes and needs for ISYY's wellbeing and communality work in the future after the project. The results also examined whether students' needs had changed compared to the results of the initial survey in 2021.

The survey was open from 16th to 30th of May and was widely communicated through ISYY's various channels. The questionnaire was open to respondents, whether or not they had participated in ISYY's BRIDGES activities. A total of 179 responses were received.

The responses showed that the needs of students have not changed/decreased since the pandemic. Respondents felt that there is still a need for low-threshold recreational events that promote wellbeing and communality. Interdisciplinary and non-alcoholic events were particularly in demand. The BRIDGES activities, such as breakfasts, were seen as important meeting places between students. Respondents expressed the wish that the activities initiated by the BRIDGES would continue to be organised after the end of the project.

– We thank each and every one of our members who responded to the survey! ISYY has been very satisfied with the achievements of the BRIDGES project over the years. The project activities have been primarily preventive and their impact cannot be underestimated. On the basis of the replies to the questionnaire, ISYY will start to explore how the wellbeing and communality work can continue after the end of the project. We will inform our members about the progress, says Eetu Hyvönen, Chair of the ISYY’s Executive Board.

The BRIDGES project will continue to run on both campuses until the end of 2023. Future events of the project will be announced on ISYY's website, newsletters and social media channels.
