New Student at UEF? - Congratulations and welcome to UEF and to the Student Union!

All Bachelor and Master's degree students at UEF are also members of ISYY (Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland). Exchange students and postgraduate students are also welcome to join ISYY.

The Student Union is YOUR union. We are here for you and work hard to look after your rights and interests. As an organisation ISYY has long-standing traditions in the field of student advocacy. If you are unsure about how to join ISYY, order your student card or anything else related to your life and studies in Finland, please get in touch with us.

Play ISYY's Freshman Bingo and get a free overall patch!

ISYY's Freshman Bingo kick-starts the academic year for our new students. By completing at least one bingo row, you'll get an ISYY FUKSI overall patch and you can take part in the Freshman Bingo Raffle. There is a limited amount of overall patches on both campuses, so it is a good idea to take this chance quickly!

You can save the bingo sheet to yourself electronically from ISYY website or you can collect a printed bingo sheet from ISYY office. The Freshman Bingo must be completed by 29 October 2026 at 3 pm!

Join ISYY's Language Café activities!

Do you want to learn a new language, brush up on your old skills and meet new people or teach your native language? We have the perfect opportunity for you via ISYY’s Language Cafés!

When participating in Language Café activities, you can also earn ECTS credits by attending (1 ECTS) and/or organising a Language Café (2 ECTS) and by submitting a few small assignments to Moodle.

Tour de Itä-Suomi will be cycled in the spirit of brevet!

Tour is a cycling event for students organised by ISYY. This autumn the Tour is held in Kuopio from 7 to 20 September. Choose the best day for you and challenge your friends to ride with you!

The Tour is not a competition - no need to rush, just finish the route at your own safe pace! You only need your own bicycle, bicycle helmet and sunny attitude.

Participation for ISYY members is 5 € and for others 10 €. Registration started on Tuesday 25.8. at 4 pm in Kide.app.

ISYY's Association Days will be held 22.–23.9.2026

ISYY organises the Association Days on Tuesday and Wednesday 22.–23.9.2026 at Joensuu campus and on Wednesday 23.9.2026 at Kuopio Campus. The event in Joensuu is held in Carelia lobby and in Kuopio in Snellmania lobby. The event takes place on both days from 10 am to 2 pm.

Come and find out what ISYY and associations close to it have to offer. It's also possible that you'll find some new activities from Association Days! ISYY Association Days are open for everybody and there's no entrance fee.

Traditionally associations sell their overall patches at the event, so it is a good idea to take some money with you.

ISYY is giving out grants for international activities also in autumn!

The grant is for events and projects that promote internationalisation in the 2026 autumn semester and is meant for subject associations, campus associations and ISYY clubs.

We are looking for activities that in addition to promoting internationalisation and international affairs in the campus cities, are innovative, are repeatable and reproducible, are sustainable long-term, are environmentally friendly, promote sobriety and take all students into account. Cooperation with other associations and clubs is also considered an advantage.

We are giving out four 225 € grants. Application period is from 24 August till 29 September.

SYKETTÄ Sports Services

SYKETTÄ – Kuopio University Sports offers a comprehensive range of sports services for students and staff of Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the University of Eastern Finland's Kuopio campus. Please read the SYKETTÄ Kuopio information. You must have a valid SYKETTÄ membership when using sports services! However, you can try out the services (excluding trainer services and the Luola gym) for free from 7 to 13 September.

UEF Library opening hours in the autumn

Library offices moved to the opening hours of the autumn term on Monday, August 31, 2026. Kuopio campus library facilities are open between 8–18 from Monday to Wednesday and between 8-16 on Thursdays and Fridays. Kuopio campus library is closed on Saturdays. In both libraries, the first hours of weekday mornings are self-service hours. Customer service starts at 10 am.

The Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2026–2027

The Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2026–2027 will be held on Kuopio campus on Thursday, 3 September 2026, at 13:15 in the Great Lecture Hall (SN100), Snellmania building. Welcome! The Opening Ceremony can also be followed online starting at 1.15 p.m.

Ecumenical Opening Service of the Academic Year will be held in the Great Lecture Hall (SN100) at 12:15–12:45. The event is open to everyone.

A civil defense exercise is taking place on 2–3 September 2026 at Luola (“the Cave”) in Savilahti, Kuopio

During the Shelter 2026 civil defense exercise, there will be more visible activity by authorities than usually in the Savilahti area, but this will not cause disturbance to residents or the environment.
